The Allen-Bradley 1771-DS is a latching module with an input voltage of 10-27V DC. It latches and detects pulses with durations from 0.1 to 5.0 ms. The module detects the pulse through its input and writes the corresponding bit to a mirrored address table during the next I/O scan. The 1771-DS module uses an optical sensor with isolated gate outputs and isolated pulse outputs to respond to pulses.
The module has two operating modes. When operating alone, it functions independently; when paired with other modules, it can respond to specific pulses or gate signals. The module can capture pulses of the maximum pulse width. The pulse capture time is selectable at 0.1ms, 0.5ms, 1.0ms, 2.5ms, or 5.0ms; you can select the desired pulse width by measuring the duration of some typical pulses. It is recommended to choose the shortest available capture time to fully utilize the paired inputs.
The 1771-DS Allen Bradley Digital Input Module may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

The 1771-DS module requires a certain recovery time after each pulse; the recovery time depends on the selected time. This module offers two methods for resetting latched inputs. Selecting "Master" will reset all inputs, while selecting "Independent" will reset a single input. When selecting a module function, ensure that the matching plug or jumper pins are correctly aligned. The 1771-DS module features foolproof protection. To prevent incorrect module slot installation, use or insert foolproof strips in the following locations: between pins 2 and 4, and between pins 18 and 20. These foolproof strips are located in the I/O housing at the upper rear connector location.
This module is designed for automated processes requiring high-speed event monitoring and is suitable for the following industries:
Packaging and Labeling: Detecting rapidly moving products or positioning marks on high-speed conveyor belts.
Pick-and-Place Machines: Monitoring transient signals from optical sensors or limit switches during rapid robot movement.
Assembly and Palletizing: Capturing trigger pulses indicating the presence or orientation of parts on automotive and electronics assembly lines.
Water/Wastewater Treatment: Monitoring transient status signals in distributed control systems.
