A key difference between the FSO-21 and the FSO-12 is that the FSO-21 supports safety functions based on encoder feedback. When the safety system utilizes a pulse encoder, ABB requires that the encoder be connected to an FSE-31 pulse encoder interface module, which then operates in conjunction with the drive and the FSO-21.
When integrated with a safety PLC, the FSO-21 enables the creation of a more comprehensive safety control architecture.
