The Bently Nevada 31000-28-10-15-040-03-02 is a complete 31000 Proximity Probe Housing Assembly configured with a 3300 XL 8 mm multiple-approval proximity probe. Bently Nevada recommends these housings when proximity probes are mounted through a machine case, particularly for radially mounted vibration or Keyphasor measurements. The housing permits external access to the probe and extension cable so the probe gap can be adjusted or the probe replaced without dismantling the machine.
The housing is manufactured from glass-reinforced polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) containing conductive fibers, with AISI 304 stainless-steel sleeve and retaining-chain components and AISI 303 stainless-steel outer-sleeve and exterior-screw components. The assembly carries Type 4X and IP66 mechanical-protection ratings, and the manufacturer states that it can be used in intrinsically safe hazardous-area applications when installed with an approved transducer system and appropriate I.S. barriers. It is intended for mechanical and environmental protection and is not an explosion-proof housing.
The 31000-28-10-15-040-03-02 Bently Nevada Proximity Probe Housing Assemblies may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

The manufacturer installation sequence calls for installing the outer sleeve into the machine case, inserting and adjusting the probe sleeve and probe gap, fitting the housing over the outer sleeve, tightening the retaining nut, reconnecting the probe cable and connector protector, and then securing the housing cover. Hole-plug nuts, when used, are tightened to 0.5 N·m (5 in-lb).
For this configuration, the selected 1.5 in standoff adapter and 4.0 in probe penetration establish the mechanical positioning of the 3300 XL 8 mm probe. Bently Nevada notes that when the combined C and D dimensions exceed 12 in (305 mm), additional sleeve support near the probe is required to prevent resonance.
