- Analog Input Module has 8 channels
- Current limited transmitter supply per channel
- HART pass-through communication, 12 Bit resolution
The AI815 analog input module has 8 channels. This module can be configured for either voltage or current input. Current and voltage signals cannot be mixed on the same I/O module. Both voltage and current inputs can withstand overvoltage or undervoltage of at least 11 V DC.
The input resistance for voltage inputs is greater than 10 MΩ, and the input resistance for current inputs is 250 Ω. This module distributes external HART-compatible transmitter power to each channel. This allows for power distribution to two-wire or three-wire transmitters with a simple connection. Transmitter power is monitored and current is limited. If an external power supply is used to power a HART transmitter, that power supply must be HART compatible.
The AI815 3BSE052604R1 ABB Analog Input Module may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

The AI815 3BSE052604R1 receives these signals through its input channels and isolates, filters, and conditions them to eliminate noise and ensure measurement accuracy. The conditioned signals are then converted into digital values by a high-resolution analog-to-digital converter (ADC). These digital data points are transmitted to the controller via the system bus for real-time monitoring, control algorithms, and diagnostics, thereby ensuring the accuracy and stability of process control in industrial automation environments.
The AI815 is a standard component in the ABB Ability™ System 800xA, Compact Product Suite, and Freelance architectures. Its primary applications include:
Process Industries: Monitoring flow, pressure, and temperature sensors in chemical, oil, and gas plants.
Asset Management: Monitoring the "health status" of field instruments using HART data to predict maintenance needs.
Distributed Control: As a modular I/O unit, it can communicate via PROFIBUS-DP or directly via the ABB Modulebus.
