Functional Application
Features:
- DCS drives DCS800 Drives (20 to 5200 A)
- Main control board designed specifically for ABB DCS800 series DC industrial drives
- Acting as the central processor or "brain" of the drive
SDCS-CON-4 board is equipped with FlashPROM which contains the firmware plus the stored parameters. Parameters handled by DCS800 panel or DWL, PCtool or by Serial communication parameter service are stored immediately in the FlashPROM.
Parameters handled by cyclic serial communication (dataset table Group 90 - 92) are not stored in the Flash PROM. They must be stored by means of ParApplSave (16.6) service. The faultlogger entries are stored in the FlashPROM during power down (auxiliary power supply OFF).
The 3ADT313900R1501 SDCS-CON-4 ABB Main Control Board may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

The control board has an internal watchdog. The watchdog controls the running of the control board program. If the watchdog trips, it has the following effects:
• Writing to FPROM is disabled.
• Thyristor firing control is reset and disabled.
• Digital outputs are forced low.
• Programmable analogue outputs are reset to zero, 0V.
When building or commissioning drive systems, the SDCS-CON-4 can be configured to operate in specific mechanical architectures:
Four-Quadrant (Regenerative) Control: Configured to handle forward and reverse drive and braking actions. This control board continuously triggers two full-power SCR rectifier bridges, feeding kinetic braking energy back to the plant's AC grid.
Master-Slave (Load Balancing) Array: Suitable for devices where two independent DC motors are mechanically coupled to the same shaft or drum (e.g., dual-motor mine hoists). One SDCS-CON-4 acts as the speed master, while the other control board tracks the speed via high-speed driver-to-driver (D2D) communication to precisely match torque output.
Excitation Reversal System: Manages high-speed motor operation above reference speed (field weakening mode) by dynamically adjusting the excitation current via an external excitation card (e.g., SDCS-FEX-4).
