Protection Matrix
Features:
- High-set overcurrent protection with instantaneous or with definite time operation
- Phase unbalance and single-phasing protection with inverse time characteristic
- Fast operating incorrect phase sequence protection
Protection against thermal overload, earth-fault, over-current, over-voltage and phase unbalance are some important features that are provided in modern protective relays. SPAM 150 C is a current measuring multi-function relay for the complete protection of AC motors. The main area of application covers large or medium-sized three-phase motors in all types of conventional contactor or circuit-breaker controlled motor drives. The motor protection relay is available in two versions, one with a trip contact and the other with a breaking trip contact.
This relay can also be used for protection of other objects, such as transformers and feeders, requiring a single, two or three-phase over-current and/or overload protection and non-directional earth-fault protection. The combined multi-function motor protection unit is a secondary relay device, connected to the current transformers of the protected motor drive. The three-phase currents and the neutral current of the protected device are continuously measured. On the basis of this measurement, the thermal condition of the motor is calculated and the faults of the network are detected. In fault situations, the relay will alarm or trip the circuit-breaker.
The SPAM150C ABB SPAM 150 C current measuring multi-function relay may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Important Notice: Other accessories, manuals, cables, calibration data, software, etc. are not included with this equipment unless listed in the above stock item description. All prices are shown in USD.
Digital LCD Display: Allows direct reading and viewing of numerical parameters, measured parameters, setpoints, and self-diagnostic fault codes.
LED Indicator Lights: The panel features dedicated trip and alarm status indicator lights (e.g., I_{L1}, I_{L2}, I_{L3}, zero-sequence current I_{o}, thermal alarm IRF). Some indicators can be used for fault phase indication.
Self-Test System (IRF): Possesses a complete hardware and software self-monitoring system; upon detecting a system fault, it immediately locks and outputs an IRF alarm signal.
Communication Interface: Can be connected to the upstream SPACOM station control or DCS system via fiber optic bus.
Complete Protection Function Matrix
The SPAM150C integrates the following standard motor protection functions, completely replacing traditional single-function relays:
Three-phase thermal overload protection: Features inverse-time characteristics to prevent continuous overload.
High setpoint timed overcurrent protection: Prevents severe phase-to-phase short-circuit faults.
Phase imbalance protection: Prevents rotor overheating caused by single-phase operation or grid imbalance.
Phase sequence error protection: Prevents motor reverse rotation; instantaneous fast protection.
Timed sensitive grounding/zero-sequence leakage current protection: Detects single-phase grounding faults in the stator windings.
Undercurrent protection: Prevents bearing damage or pump overload during idling/no-load operation.
Starting and stall protection: Can be connected to an external speed control switch for long-term starting monitoring.
