As a key hardware expansion module for compact control systems, this module can be directly installed on the right-side expansion bus of the S7-1200 CPU. It features a high-density electrical interface layout, meets IP20 protection standards, and is designed to provide a flexible, economical, and space-saving I/O channel expansion solution for small and medium-sized automated control systems. This module is widely used in various industrial manufacturing and process control fields, including packaging machinery, machine tool control, water treatment, and conveyor belt management.
The input channels support flexible source or drain wiring, enabling precise identification of the on/off states of field limit switches, photoelectric sensors, and buttons. The output channels employ a source (transistor) high-frequency output design, with a maximum continuous rated current of 0.5A per channel. Thanks to solid-state transistor control, this output not only offers extremely fast response but is also ideal for driving solenoid valves, DC contactors, and indicator lights. It can also be used as a high-frequency pulse signal source to control stepper motors or servo drivers.
The 6ES7223-1BH32-0XB0 Siemens SM 1223 Digital I/O Module may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

High-speed transistor switches: Utilizing transistors instead of mechanical relays, they support rapid, repetitive switching cycles without physical contact wear.
Electrical isolation: The core internal logic circuitry is completely isolated from the field-level wiring circuitry to protect the main PLC CPU from voltage spikes or sudden ground faults.
Configurable input delay: The input response filter (ranging from 0.2 ms to 12.8 ms) can be adjusted in Siemens TIA Portal software to filter out physical sensor contact bounce.
Unlike traditional ET 200S components, this S7-1200 signal module is an active product, widely used in modern small and medium-sized factories, packaging automation, and local pump control nodes.
