Integrated Communication Interfaces
Features:
- SIMATIC S7-1500, CPU 1517-3 PN/DP, Central processing unit
- CPU with work memory 2 MB for Program and 8 MB for data, 1st interface
- PROFINET IRT with 2-port switch, 2nd interface: PROFINET RT, 3rd interface: PROFIBUS, 2 ns bit performance
This control board boasts powerful data processing capabilities, integrating 2MB of program memory and 8MB of data memory, with an extremely short bit operation processing time of only 2 nanoseconds (ns). It is specifically designed for large-scale industrial automation factories with extremely high requirements for processing speed and network communication, and is perfectly capable of handling complex process control, large-scale distributed architecture management, and high-performance motion control tasks (such as the control of speed axes, positioning axes, and synchronization axes).
In terms of network topology and hardware communication, this CPU features rich multi-interface parallel communication and system diagnostic functions. A full-color LCD screen is also integrated on the CPU surface, allowing maintenance personnel to directly view the module's hardware identifiers, network IP addresses, diagnostic buffer text, and alarm information without using a computer, greatly simplifying on-site debugging and troubleshooting processes.
The 6ES7517-3AP00-0AB0 Siemens CPU central processing unit may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Effective October 1, 2025, Siemens has officially announced the discontinuation of production of the 6ES7517-3AP00-0AB0 product. While this product will continue to be supported and sold through Moore Automated, future system deployments should gradually transition to newer hardware models to avoid long-term supply issues.
The "3" in the CPU name represents its three onboard communication interfaces, providing strong network connectivity flexibility: Interface 1 (PROFINET IO): PROFINET IRT (Synchronous Real-Time) interface, equipped with an integrated dual-port switch (RJ45 interface). Interface 2 (PROFINET IO): Independent PROFINET RT (Real-Time) Ethernet port for network isolation. Interface 3 (PROFIBUS): Dedicated PROFIBUS DP master/slave interface (RS-485 connection) for integration with traditional field networks.
