The ABB SPDSO14 is a high-performance, high-density digital output (DO) slave module designed by ABB specifically for Symphony Plus control systems and Harmony rack-mount I/O systems. Fully backward compatible with existing INFI 90 OPEN strategic enterprise management systems, this module typically operates as a rack-mount slave, designed to establish a secure and reliable binary signal control path between distributed control system (DCS) controllers and external industrial field devices.
In terms of functionality and hardware compatibility, the SPDSO14 module integrates 16 independent digital output channels with a highly flexible open-collector circuit configuration. Each channel features independent electrical isolation (optical isolation) protection, effectively preventing external field voltage spikes from interfering with the control system's internal logic network. Furthermore, the module can be connected via dedicated cables to solid-state relays on the NTDO02 terminal unit or to other relay components to drive conventional electromechanical relays, solenoid valves, actuators, and various indicator loads, demonstrating excellent application compatibility in multi-voltage process control environments.

This module operates as a slave component within the internal rack topology:
Extended Bus Connection: The card connects to the I/O extended bus via its rear edge connector, continuously polling command words from the master controller (e.g., SPBRC410).
Terminated Panel Interface: External field signals are rarely directly connected to the card. Typically, a multi-pin flat cable exits from the rack slot to a separate terminal block assembly (most commonly ABB NTDI01), where the field physical wiring is terminated.
