The RUSB-02 connection kit gives a maintenance computer access to the DDCS communication path used by compatible ABB drives. It is useful when an engineer needs to examine operating signals, review logged faults or compare settings with an approved parameter record. The optical adapter supplies the communication link; the available engineering functions are provided by the installed software and the connected drive, rather than being independent functions executed inside the USB device.
Before using the kit, establish the actual drive type and the DDCS interface fitted to it. Preserve relevant parameter and application backups, confirm the intended service channel and select a software release supported by the computer environment. Once connected, verify that the detected drive identity is correct before changing parameters or issuing control commands. Optical topology and node addressing should follow the installation documentation, and production machinery must remain under the site maintenance and safety procedures. RUSB-02 uses a USB host connection and the Microsoft HID driver. ABB recommends installing DriveWindow before connecting the communication hardware. Confirm that Windows recognises the adapter, then select the intended device in the engineering software; device recognition alone does not verify the optical path to the drive.
The adapter provides one DDCS optical channel. The documented network can use a ring or a tree with optical distributors, subject to the drive system configuration. For the ACS800 and DCS800 arrangements covered by the ABB application note, verify channel 3 on the specified DDCS hardware and follow the drive manual for cable and node configuration.
DriveWindow provides signal monitoring and fault-logger functions for supported connected drives. Use the correct drive identity and retain the original fault context when investigating a trip. Data availability and software functions depend on the drive family and application, so do not infer that every ABB drive exposes the same diagnostics or backup features.
