Features:
- Converter control board Power Processor Card (PPC)
- Unitrol and MEGATROL static excitation systems
- ABB industrial automation and excitation systems
Primarily used for excitation control of ABB UNITROL series static excitation systems or medium- and high-voltage synchronous motors. This control board integrates advanced microprocessor and digital signal processing technology. Its core function is to achieve automatic voltage regulation (AVR) of the synchronous generator or motor, ensuring the stability and reliability of the terminal voltage during power system load fluctuations.
It supports multiple communication protocols, enabling real-time data exchange with host computer monitoring systems or power plant DCS, thereby achieving remote control and parameter monitoring of the excitation system. This highly integrated design allows it to adapt to harsh power grid environments and maintain system dynamic stability through rapid adjustment during power grid transient faults.
The HIEE300931R0001 PPC381 AE ABB Converter control board may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

The HIEE300931R0001 uses an induction transformer to sample the three-phase voltage and current signals of the generator in real time and converts them into digital signals, which are then input to the internal processor. The processor compares the sampled values with set reference values according to a preset PID algorithm and control strategy, and outputs trigger pulses to the thyristor rectifier power unit. By changing the conduction angle of the rectifier bridge, the magnetic field excitation current can be precisely adjusted. This process constitutes a closed-loop control logic, ensuring that the generator output power and reactive load are always under control.
Because this component is a specialized industrial part, it is typically considered a critical spare: Direct Supply: Although newer generation products have replaced some older PPC series products, ABB continues to support these older products through its global service network. Third-Party Suppliers: If direct supply to the factory has a long lead time, specialized industrial automation suppliers often have new "AE" version circuit boards available for immediate replacement of power systems.
