Digital DC Input Module

1756-IV32

Spare Part Number

PN1756IV32 1756-IV32/A

Product Information:

The 1756-IV32 is a 32-channel high-density digital input module from Allen-Bradley ControlLogix Systems, a subsidiary of Rockwell Automation. It primarily provides input interfaces for industrial field switch signals, accurately converting the operating status of various discrete devices (such as mechanical limit switches, pushbuttons, limit switches, and proximity switches) into logic signals recognizable by the controller, thus connecting to the PLC main processor.

The 1756-IV32 employs a sinking input physical design, meaning that field devices send positive voltage signals to the module's inputs (internal components act as leakage current points). Its standard rated operating voltage is 24V DC [1]. As part of the ControlLogix product family, it supports hot-swap (RIUP) functionality, allowing maintenance personnel to replace damaged hardware without disconnecting the system power, significantly reducing unplanned downtime in the plant.

Furthermore, the 1756-IV32 features a high-density layout design, occupying only one standard I/O slot, significantly saving physical space within the control cabinet. In practical industrial applications, the 1756-IV32 is widely used in automotive manufacturing assembly lines, large packaging machinery, material handling and warehousing systems, and various discrete monitoring loops in process control. Each module can be equipped with up to 32 detection points, making it an ideal choice for dense sensor status acquisition and fault safety alarm monitoring of large equipment.

Overview Manuals High-Density Optimization & Features Application Details

Features:

  • Allen Bradley ControlLogix Digital DC Input Module with 32 Inputs
  • 32 inputs, divided into 2 isolated groups of 16 channels each
  • Requires a 36-pin mechanical interface (1756-TBCH or 1756-TBS6H), which is sold separately
The Allen-Bradley 1756-IV32 is a digital input module with 32 input ports, grouped in sets of 16. The 1756-IV32 module is compatible with the ControlLogix 1756 chassis, but requires an RTB (Removable Terminal Block) before connecting the module to the chassis. The 1756-IV32 module can only use RTBs of model 1756-TBCH or 1756-TBS6H. The 1756-IV32 operates from 10 to 30 volts DC and is a 12/24 volt DC power module. It draws 120 mA at 5.1 volts and 2 mA at 24 volts.

At a nominal 24 volt DC input voltage, its total backplane power consumption is 0.66 watts. The module's continuous operating voltage is 250 volts. The 1756-IV32 module has a maximum power consumption of 4.1 watts and a heat dissipation of 14 BTU/hour (60°C). Its maximum inrush current is 250 mA, which decays to below 37% within 22 milliseconds in the inactive state; the maximum input impedance is 8.6 kΩ (30 V DC).

The 1756-IV32 Allen Bradley Digital DC Input Module may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
Allen Bradley 1756-IV32 Digital DC Input Module Manuals(Datasheets), Link Important Notice: Other accessories, manuals, cables, calibration data, software, etc. are not included with this equipment unless listed in the above stock item description. All prices are shown in USD.
Because the 1756-IV32 integrates 32 control points within a standard single-slot chassis, it is widely used to save valuable control panel space. It supports live mounting and removable components (RIUP), meaning technicians can replace faulty modules while the rest of the PLC chassis remains powered. Furthermore, it features software-adjustable point-by-point electronic filtering to eliminate contact jitter or signal noise from heavy machinery.
1.Automotive assembly lines: Monitoring hundreds of proximity switches, position sensors, and structurally interlocked safety gates distributed throughout robotic welding and stamping units.

2.Material handling and logistics: In large distribution centers, tracking fast-moving packages via photoelectric sensors, sorters, and conveyor limit switches.

3.Packaging and filling systems: Integrating high-speed discrete input signals from filling machines, capping machines, and labeling machines into a central controller.

Technical notes

The Rockwell Automation 1756-IV32 is a 32-channel 24V DC input module for ControlLogix systems. It supports high-density digital inputs, with internal channels divided into two electrically isolated groups and 250V continuous basic insulation. The module supports state change (COS) interrupts and hardware timestamps. Digital filtering time can be configured via Studio 5000. A 36-pin removable terminal block (RTB) is required for use.
