Features:
- Used to protect the exposed circuity of a vacant slot of a ControlLogix chassis
- It has a single slot width without any current draw from the backplane
- Seals open bays to route cooling airflow efficiently across active, heat-generating modules
The 1756-N2 is a slot-filling module from Allen-Bradley. This module contains two passive modules, resembling a housing in appearance, but without internal electronic components. In short, it's also known as a virtual module, used to cover and protect exposed circuitry in unused slots in a 1756 ControlLogix system. The 1756-N2 is designed as a single-slot-width virtual module, not occupying a chassis slot, only covering electronic components.
This module is ideal for installation environments where dust particles or micro-contaminants may adhere to the backplane. It also provides additional protection against gases, vapors, and other industrial contaminants. Backplane slot configurations are versatile. The primary purpose is to ensure that I/O modules are rationally distributed when the system is strategically partitioned to accommodate system upgrades. Furthermore, reserving empty backplane slots facilitates system expansion.
The 1756-N2 Allen Bradley Slot Filler Module may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Dust Barrier: Prevents dust, airborne particles, and liquids from contacting exposed metal pins on the chassis backplane.
Airflow Optimization: Sealed open slots allow for efficient cooling airflow over heat-generating modules.
Safety Isolation: Prevents accidental contact with energized internal backplane circuitry.
Future Expansion Planning: Reserves chassis space for future additions of I/O cards or network cards while maintaining a clean layout and industry-standard compliance.
1756-N2: Designed for standard ControlLogix chassis environments.
1756-N2XT: Featuring a conformal coating, designed for the extreme temperature environments of ControlLogix-XT and ControlLogix-ZXT chassis.
