Product Information:

The Allen-Bradley 1756-OA16I is a high-density ControlLogix discrete AC output module manufactured by Rockwell Automation. The "I" suffix in the product number is crucial, indicating that the module has independently isolated channels. Each output point has its own independent common return, allowing you to flexibly mix different external circuit phases or different AC supply voltages on a single slot.

Each slot of the Allen-Bradley 1756-OA16I contains 16 independently isolated AC output channels. It provides a nominal voltage output of 120 VAC/240 VAC, a voltage range of 74-265 VAC, and a frequency range of 47-63 Hz.

Features:

  • 1756 ControlLogix Discrete AC output module
  • This module features Sixteen (16) individually isolated AC output channels in each channel
  • It has continuous output current per point of 2 A @ 30 °C (86 °F) linear derating and 1 A @ 60 °C (140 °F) linear derating
The Allen-Bradley 1756-OA16I requires removable terminal blocks (RTBs) to connect electrical loads to the module's output channels. Compatible terminal block models are 1756-TBCH and 1756-TBS6H. The output delay times for each channel are: 9.3 ms at 60 Hz and 11 ms at 50 Hz (transition from off to on); and 9.3 ms at 60 Hz and 11 ms at 50 Hz (transition from on to off). This module consumes 300mA of current at 5.1VDC and 2.5mA of current at 24VDC, with a total backplane power consumption of 1.59 watts.

The 1756-OA16I is a single-slot module that can be installed in any 1756 chassis. Compatible chassis include the 1756-A4, 1756-A7, 1756-A10, 1756-A13, and 1756-A17. This module can also be installed in a local rack with a ControlLogix controller or in a remote I/O rack via a 1756 communication adapter.

The 1756-OA16I Allen Bradley Digital AC Output Module may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Chassis Integration: Can be installed in any slot of the standard Bulletin 1756 ControlLogix chassis. It can operate locally with the CPU or remotely via EtherNet/IP or ControlNet links.
Wiring Interface: Requires separate ordering of 36-pin detachable terminal blocks (RTBs), such as cage clips (1756-TBCH) or spring clips (1756-TBS6H).
Backplane Power Consumption: Draws approximately 300 mA from the chassis backplane power supply at 5.1V DC; draws approximately 2.5 mA at 24V DC.
The 1756-OA16I supports configuring a fault mode for each point of failure. Configurable states include "Keep Last State," "On," or "Off" (the default is "Off"). It also allows configuration of the output state in programming mode, with configurable settings including "Keep last state", "On", or "Off" (the default is "Off"). The module has no internal fuse but features a rated isolation voltage of 250V (continuous), basic insulation type, and output-to-backplane and output-to-output configurations.
