Remote Termination Panel

1771-RTP4

Spare Part Number

PNTYP UMK-SE11,25-1902-RTP

Product Information:

The Allen-Bradley 1771-RTP4 is a Remote Terminal Panel (RTP) interface module designed specifically for the PLC-5/Bulletin 1771 platform. As a centralized wiring center, it allows direct connection of field instruments to the high-density, high-resolution 1771-N series analog I/O modules (such as the 1771-NIS, 1771-NIV, and 1771-NIVR). By removing the physical field terminals from the PLC rack, it eliminates the need for intermediate terminals and allows you to replace or maintain PLC modules without interfering with the current field operating circuitry.

Overview Manuals Application Limitations System Cabling & Migration

Features:

  • It features straight-thru wiring mapping directly from the field terminals to the interface ports
  • Supports up to 8 analog channels per panel
  • Utilizes a 3 Amp, 250 Volt normal-blow fuse to safeguard internal pathways
The Allen-Bradley 1771-RTP4 PLC 5 Remote Terminal Panel is an electrical device designed for use with N-Series high-resolution analog I/O modules to build remote terminal systems. The panel can be mounted on standard DIN 1 and DIN 3 mounting rails. The 1771-RTP4 features field-wiring connectors and connects to N-Series I/O modules via two 1.8-meter (6-foot) long 1771-NC6 prefabricated cables, allowing connection of up to eight I/O ports.

It is an 8-channel terminal panel with voltage input, RTD, and voltage output capabilities, suitable for most applications except thermocouples. The 1771-RTP4 can be mounted on asymmetrical or symmetrical 1 or 3 DIN rails and is designed to reduce additional costs by eliminating wiring between terminals and allows I/O to be removed or replaced without interrupting the current loop.

The 1771-RTP4 Allen Bradley Remote Termination Panel may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
Allen Bradley 1771-RTP4 Remote Termination Panel Manuals(Datasheets), Link Important Notice: Other accessories, manuals, cables, calibration data, software, etc. are not included with this equipment unless listed in the above stock item description. All prices are shown in USD.
Supported signal types: Suitable for standard current loops (4–20 mA), voltage signals, and resistance temperature detectors (RTDs). Note that processing raw voltage inputs with this module typically requires an external resistor.
Thermocouple limitations: The 1771-RTP4 module does not have built-in cold junction compensation (CJC). Therefore, it cannot be used for thermocouple applications unless a separate external parity compensation method is used at the connection between the thermocouple and the copper system wiring. (For applications with direct thermocouple connections, use the 1771-RTP3 or 1771-RT41 module with integrated CJC instead.)
Traditional Connection: Connect to your PLC-5 analog module using two pre-fabricated 6-foot 1771-NC6 cables or 15-foot 1771-NC15 cables.
ControlLogix Upgrade: When migrating from a traditional PLC-5 setup to ControlLogix, you don't necessarily need to remove this wiring panel. Rockwell Automation offers the 1492-CONACAB adapter cable, which plugs directly into the existing 25-pin port of the 1771-RTP4, allowing you to route these signals directly to modern 1756 analog modules (such as the 1756-IRT8I) without touching the field terminals.

Technical notes

The Allen-Bradley 1771-RTP4 is a remote wiring panel designed for PLC-5 systems, such as the 1771-N series high-resolution analog and temperature control modules, primarily offering straight-through wiring for up to eight channels. The panel mounts on a standard DIN rail and features 38 screw terminals and two 25-pin connectors, supporting both current and voltage signals (voltage signals require an external resistor). However, it lacks cold junction compensation and therefore cannot be used directly for thermocouple applications by default. Its core technology eliminates the cumbersome wiring between traditional terminals, allowing technicians to safely remove or replace I/O modules without interrupting the current loop, significantly reducing system maintenance costs.
