Features:
- RS-485/RS-422 Four-Wire Serial Interface Controller module
- Emerson ovation Westinghouse Serial Link Controller
- Provides for an RS-485/RS-422 four-wire full duplex serial link
This module features 1000V AC peak/DC dielectric isolation protection, effectively preventing damage to the DCS core logic layer from ground potential differences and industrial surges. In practical industrial control networks, it supports application-layer serial interface communication at various standard baud rates from 300 to 19200 bps and is equipped with user-selectable resistor termination configurations.
This module is tightly integrated with the electronic backplane, providing not only a 4-wire communication link for third-party field devices but also a built-in J1 programming and debugging port interface. This allows engineers to directly connect to an IBM-compliant PC serial port, enabling efficient local configuration, diagnostics, and program loading of the underlying serial link.
The 1C31169G02 Emerson Westinghouse Serial Link Controller module may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

The 1C31169G02 module relies on its core RS-485/RS-422 differential signal transmission technology to resist strong industrial electromagnetic interference. When receiving logic commands from the master controller, the module's internal transceiver hardware converts the digital logic signals into balanced differential voltage signals to drive the serial bus. Conversely, when receiving third-party data, the module performs noise reduction, isolation, and level restoration on the differential signals from the four-wire link. These low-level data are high-speed mapped to and exchanged on the Ovation controller's I/O bus via the module's onboard dual-port static random access memory (DMU), thereby accurately and in real-time feeding the serial process variables of the physical field to the DCS control algorithm for closed-loop regulation.
- Electrical isolation: Equipped with 1000V AC/DC electrical protection to isolate noise spikes from high-voltage motor control centers or switch rooms.
- Long-distance infrastructure: Employs RS-485 differential loop to ensure stable data transmission between distributed industrial sites.
