- Enhanced Intelligent Communication Module (EICM)
- Serial (RS-232/RS-422/RS-485) ports
- Allows the Tricon to communicate with Modbus masters and slaves, TriStation and printers
The model 4119A Enhanced Intelligent Communication Module (EICM) allows the Tricon to communicate with Modbus masters and slaves, TriStation and printers. For Modbus connections, the EICM user can select the RS-232 point-topoint interface for one master and one slave, or the RS-485 interface for one master and up to 32 slaves. The RS-485 network trunk can be one or two twisted-pair wires up to a maximum of 4,000 feet (1,200 meters).
Each EICM contains four serial ports and one parallel port which can operate concurrently. Each serial port can be configured as a Modbus master with up to seven Modbus masters per Tricon chassis. A single Tricon system supports a maximum of two EICMs, which must reside in one logical slot.
The 4119A Invensys Triconex Enhanced Intelligent Communication Module may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

This module integrates a built-in hard-coded firmware protocol stack, enabling the secure extraction of key system metrics from the Tricon system:
Modbus Protocol: Provides full functionality for seamless interaction with Modbus masters and slaves. It natively decodes highly compressed RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) and ASCII data frames.
TriStation Interface: Serves as a point-to-point interface channel for the TriStation 1131 software. This allows security engineers to securely log into the secure system to perform logic audits, diagnostic scans, and configuration adjustments.
Emergency Shutdown (ESD) System: Serves as the last line of defense, safely shutting off process valves in hazardous chemical infrastructure.
Fire and Gas (F&G) System: Quickly verifies detector inputs and initiates local mitigation procedures.
Steam Turbine and Compressor Control System: Controls speed limits and overspeed trip parameters for large rotating equipment.
Boiler Management System (BMS): Ensures safe ignition, operation, and fuel isolation of utility boiler units.
