When installed in an S7-400 rack, this module connects to the controller via the backplane bus and manages all industrial Ethernet communication tasks. Control data, diagnostic information, and process variables are exchanged between the PLC memory and the communication processor. The communication processor encapsulates data into Ethernet communication frames and transmits them over the industrial network. Simultaneously, received network data is decoded and sent to the PLC for processing, thus enabling continuous bidirectional communication between the controller and external automation systems.
