The 6ES7131-6BF00-0BA0 is a high-performance digital input module in the Siemens SIMATIC ET 200SP distributed I/O system. It features eight 24V DC input channels and a compact, modular design that significantly saves installation space within the control cabinet. As part of the "Basic" series, this module is widely used in industrial automation production lines for acquiring various switching signals from pushbuttons, limit switches, and proximity sensors, thanks to its high reliability and excellent interference immunity.
Functionally, the module supports current sinking input (P-level detection) and offers exceptional flexibility. It supports hot-swapping, allowing module replacement during system operation without downtime, significantly reducing equipment maintenance time. Furthermore, the front panel features clear LED status indicators that display the real-time switching status of each channel and module diagnostic information. Combined with the ET 200SP system's unique push-in wiring technology, wiring is simplified and the risk of installation errors is reduced.
The 6ES7131-6BF00-0BA0 Siemens DIGITAL INPUT MODULE may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

In terms of operation, the module monitors the voltage status of external circuits through its eight input channels. When an external sensor closes, causing the input terminal to receive a 24V DC voltage signal, the optocoupler inside the module converts this high-level signal into an internal logic level, thereby achieving electrical isolation between the field side and the backplane bus side. Subsequently, the filtered signal is transmitted to the interface module (IM) via the ET 200SP's backplane bus, and finally read by the central controller (PLC), thus completing the conversion from physical switch action to digital logic signal.
Manufacturing Automation: Monitors machine status (running/stopped/faulty), detects the presence of parts on conveyors, and synchronizes robot operations.
Process Control: Used in chemical and pharmaceutical plants to track valve positions, pump status, and safety interlocks.
Energy Management: Interfaces with circuit breakers, transformer indicators, and generator status signals in power distribution systems.
Building Automation: Connects to HVAC dampers, motion sensors, and fire alarm contacts in building management systems (BMS).
Transportation: Monitors track occupancy, signal light status, and level crossing locations in rail and airport logistics.
This module is designed to connect to the following 24V DC field devices:
Switches: Push-button switches, emergency stop contacts, and limit switches.
Sensors: Proximity detectors (PNP/sinking input), photoelectric sensors, and two-wire sensors conforming to IEC 61131 Type 1 and Type 3 standards.
Interlocks: Safety door switches and feedback contacts for industrial control.
