01 Check the part鈥攏ot just the platform name
Modicon Quantum does not have one lifecycle date that can safely be applied to every reference. Schneider Electric has issued withdrawal notices covering specified Quantum products. The dates and service arrangements for an individual CPU, I/O module or accessory must be checked against its own reference and applicable notice.
For example, the historical Quantum notice RAL21AM0001 lists commercial-withdrawal and obsolescence dates for the references within its scope. It is not a substitute for checking a safety CPU or another part with its own lifecycle information.
Commercial availability When will the manufacturer stop accepting orders for this reference? Is there a stated last-order date?
Service availability What repair, exchange or spare-part support remains, and in which region? Confirm the service end date separately.
Independent supply Is a specific unit available, in the required condition, with acceptable documentation and delivery terms?
System suitability Does the offered unit match the installed revision, firmware, rack, network and approved configuration?
A lifecycle notice is a planning signal, not automatic permission to replace a module. Continued operation and any hardware change still require the plant owner's technical and safety assessment.

02 Compare platforms through the installed system
The platform name helps organise the enquiry. It does not establish software compatibility, lifecycle status or a one-to-one replacement. Use the following as an assessment guide, not a substitution table.

03 Quantum to M580: plan the whole migration
Retaining selected I/O can be part of a migration, but it is not a universal plug-and-play upgrade. The correct approach depends on controller type, network, software, firmware and the supported target architecture.
STAGE 1 / ASSESS Capture the baseline Record the bill of materials, rack layout, I/O map, communications, redundancy and safety functions. Secure project backups and the tools needed to read them.
STAGE 2 / ENGINEER Validate the route Confirm supported conversion tools, retained I/O, adapters and software versions. Review changes to logic, diagnostics, HMI / SCADA and third-party interfaces.
STAGE 3 / VERIFY Prove the result Define acceptance tests, recovery steps and rollback criteria. Schedule commissioning with the system owner and retain the approved as-built records.
Two adapter examples that should not be confused

Software conversion is a separate workstream. Schneider Electric FAQ FA329655 describes a staged route for legacy ProWORX, Concept or PL7 projects through Unity Quantum / Premium and then the Unity M580 Application Converter. Confirm the supported source format and tool version; conversion does not remove the need to review and test the application.
04 140CPU65160S: keep the safety distinction

140CPU65160S is a Quantum Unity safety processor. It should not be treated as interchangeable with a similarly named standard CPU. Record the complete reference, approved safety application, firmware and engineering environment. Have the responsible safety engineer confirm any replacement or migration route and its validation requirements. The Schneider Electric India product page reviewed on 3 September 2026 lists 31 December 2029 for both discontinuation and end of service for this reference. A recommended successor is not an approved safety-system design. A commercial cross-reference alone does not establish that the existing safety function, configuration or certification requirements are preserved.
05 Turn supply risk into a practical spares plan
Base the plan on the operational consequence of failure, replenishment time and the remaining life of the installation. Prioritise critical CPUs, power supplies, communication modules and I/O according to the actual architecture鈥攏ot a generic stock list.

Before accepting a quotation Identity: full reference, suffix, revision and photographs of the offered unit. Condition: unused, refurbished or used; storage information and inspection scope where available. Timing: confirmed availability, dispatch estimate, transport and customs assumptions. Terms: warranty, returns, documents and approval of any proposed alternative.
Keep an approved backup and recovery procedure alongside the spare. Review stock after failures, lifecycle notices or changes to the migration schedule. Independent supply can support a maintenance horizon; it does not extend manufacturer support or guarantee compatibility.

01 Is every Modicon Quantum part already discontinued? Do not apply one date to the entire family. Check the full reference against the relevant product page and notice. Standard and safety references can have different schedules, and commercial withdrawal is separate from service availability.
02 Can a Quantum system migrate to M580 without replacing all I/O? Some supported architectures allow selected I/O or networks to be retained. The exact CPU, adapters, firmware and I/O must be assessed together. Retaining hardware does not eliminate application conversion, interface checks or commissioning.
03 Can I load an old ProWORX, Concept or PL7 project directly into M580? Do not assume a direct transfer. The documented conversion route can involve an intermediate Unity Quantum / Premium project and the M580 Application Converter. Review tool support, conversion reports and application behaviour with a qualified engineer.
04 Is 140CPU65160S interchangeable with a standard Quantum CPU? No interchangeability should be assumed. This reference is a safety processor. Any change must be evaluated against the approved safety application, hardware and software requirements, with the required validation.
