Critical Circuit Changes
Features:
- New Improved Long-Life Fan for Low-Voltage AC Drives
- It uses a single-phase 230 VAC power supply and has a dual-frequency rating of 50/60 Hz
- The rated power is 230 watts (0.23 kilowatts), and the rated operating current is 1.4 amps
A fan in a low voltage AC drive ensures cooling in a drive unit. Optimum cooling means that operational capability and reliability can be guaranteed. The cooling ability of a fan decreases when compo-nents like bearings begin to wear out.
The improved fans are specified with a type code and long-life marking. The fans are specified for an operational point with the L10 bearing life principle and an ambient temperature of 35 °C.
The RF3D-146-180 ABB FAN may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

If you are maintaining or replacing an older generation industrial drive cabinet, the following structural changes must be considered:
Older Configuration (Prior August 2015): This drive cabinet originally used a conventional AC motor fan (ebm-papst D2E146AP47C3), which relied on a separate external running capacitor (ABB part number: 42004307) to start the motor windings.
Newer Configuration (After August 2015): The RF3D-146/180 is an electronically commutated (EC) brushless fan with built-in drive electronics. It does not have a running capacitor. When installing this new version to replace the older equipment, the old external starting capacitor circuit must be completely removed or bypassed.
