SDCS-CON-1 is an ABB drive control board used in DCS 500 and DCP 500 DC converter systems. It stores the system program and application data in flash PROM devices and coordinates the converter control sequence.
The board uses an 80C186 processor with the DC94L01 ASIC to manage measurements, analog and digital conversion, thyristor firing pulses, watchdog supervision, and RS485 communication to the control panel and field exciter.
SDCS-CON-1 interfaces with SDCS-IOB-1 or the SDCS-IOB-2 and SDCS-IOB-3 combination and supports CDP310/CDP311 control panels. ABB classifies the DCS 500 platform as obsolete; DCS800 is the official system upgrade path and requires engineering review rather than direct board substitution.
SDCS-CON-1 is the central control board for ABB DCS 500 and DCP 500 converter systems. It executes the system software and application program while coordinating measurement and control tasks.
The board manages A/D and D/A control, digital I/O, thyristor firing pulses, watchdog functions, memory, control-panel communication, and interfaces to connected I/O and communication boards.
Replacement requires confirmation of board designation, software revision, flash-memory contents, I/O-board arrangement, connected control panel, field exciter, and converter-specific application data.
The SDCS-CON-1 uses an 80C186 processor and ABB DC94L01 ASIC. System software is stored in flash PROM devices D33 and D34, application data is stored in D35, and capacitor-backed static RAM preserves faults, alarms, and operating records after control power is removed.
The board creates the converter firing sequence and coordinates measurements, analog and digital conversion, digital I/O, watchdog supervision, and communication. A charged backup capacitor provides at least eight hours of memory retention and typically supports a longer practical backup time.
SDCS-CON-1 works with SDCS-IOB-1 or an SDCS-IOB-2 plus SDCS-IOB-3 arrangement and can connect to SDCS-COM-1 or SDCS-COM-5 communication hardware. Compatibility depends on the exact DCS 500/DCP 500 converter configuration and software.
Before replacing the board, record the software and application version, preserve the parameter set when possible, inspect connector condition, and compare all optional boards and field-exciter interfaces. Electrostatic-discharge handling and converter isolation are mandatory.
DCS800 is ABB’s modernization platform for obsolete DCS 500 installations. It is a system-level migration path, not a simple SDCS-CON-1 plug-in board replacement.
