Product Information:

The 1756-PSCA2 is a redundant power supply chassis adapter module in Rockwell Automation's Allen-Bradley ControlLogix large control system series. As a key hardware component ensuring the long-term stable operation of the control system, it does not occupy a standard I/O slot within the chassis. Instead, it is directly installed on a dedicated power interface on the left side of the ControlLogix chassis (B series and above only), serving as a core physical bridge for hardware-level power paralleling and high-availability architecture.

The core function of the 1756-PSCA2 is to centralize and combine the current output from one or two external ControlLogix redundant power supplies (such as AC 1756-PA75R or DC 1756-PB75R). The 1756-PSCA2 connects to the adapter via a dedicated 1756-CPR2 redundant power cable, providing the required 1.2V, 3.3V, 5V, and 24V DC regulated voltages to the chassis backplane, thus achieving a balanced and stable power supply.

As Rockwell Automation's current flagship full-lifecycle active accessory, the 1756-PSCA2 supports hot-swappable external power supplies, allowing for maintenance without interrupting system power. Together with the corrosion-resistant coated version (1756-PSCA2K) and the wide-temperature version (1756-PSCA2XT), it forms a robust safety barrier for critical automation equipment in the factory.

Features:

  • Redundant power supply chassis adapter
  • Open-style chassis unit with an IP00/None rating intended for clean, enclosed electrical panels
  • Rated for standard operating temperatures ranging from 0°C to 60°C and engineered to withstand up to 30 G of operational shock
Allen Bradley's 1756-PSCA2 is a redundant power supply chassis adapter module, a critical component ensuring uninterrupted power to various components. This module employs a passive design, meaning it does not control server logic but rather handles power distribution. It supports multiple voltage levels and features a wide current output range: 1.5 amps at 1.2V DC, 4 amps at 3.3V DC, 15 amps at 5.1V DC, and 2.8 amps at 24V DC. These specifications enable its flexible application in harsh industrial environments.

Environmental adaptability is another key characteristic of this module. It can operate in non-condensing environments with humidity levels ranging from 5% to 95% and can withstand vibrations ranging from 10 to 500 Hz with a maximum intensity of 2G. To ensure reliable operation, it can withstand operating and non-operating shocks of up to 30G and shocks of up to 50G, making it suitable for harsh industrial environments. This rugged and durable characteristic highlights its practicality in a variety of applications, providing reliable power management for critical applications.

The 1756-PSCA2 Allen Bradley Redundant Power Supply Chassis Adapter Module may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

All prices are shown in USD.
The 1756-PSCA2 itself does not generate power; it must be connected to a pair of external ControlLogix redundant power supplies using a dedicated cable.

1.Compatible Power Supplies: Works with either the 1756-PA75R (AC input) or 1756-PB75R (DC input) power modules.
2.System Interconnection: Requires two 1756-CPR2 (or dedicated right-angle 1756-CPR2D/1756-CPR2U) power cables. Ensure that the bending radius of the cables inside the cabinet does not exceed 5.0 inches (12.7 cm) to prevent internal cable breakage and signal loss.
3.Seamless Failover: When connected via an adapter, if one power supply fails or there is a fluctuation in the input line, the adapter will seamlessly switch the entire backplane load to the remaining power supply within 20 milliseconds, preventing the PLC processor from shutting down or being blocked.
Rockwell Automation has listed the 1756-PSCA2 as an "on-demand" product, meaning it will continue to be fully manufactured, sold, and supported globally. For harsh or corrosive applications, it is typically replaced by its conformal coated version, the 1756-PSCA2K, or its high-temperature resistant version, the 1756-PSCA2XT.

Technical notes

The 1756-PSCA2 is a passive redundant power adapter for Rockwell ControlLogix B-Series chassis. It introduces external power to the backplane via two dedicated cables. The specifications emphasize that this module does not participate in failover diagnostics and must be used with the B-Series chassis while meeting specific thermal and cabling space constraints.
