1. Factory Automation and Material Handling:

1. Hardware Placement and I/O Addressing: Chassis Alignment: With the system power completely isolated, insert the module into any available slot in the SLC 500 modular chassis (slots 1 through 30, slot 0 reserved for the processor).
Fixed Data Structure: After placement, the RSLogix 500 automatically generates a fixed 16-bit input word based on its slot number. For example, if the module is in slot 3, channel 0 is addressed as I:3/0, and channel 15 is addressed as I:3/15.
Static Filtering: Unlike newer platforms with adjustable software debouncing, this module features an 8ms hardwired input signal delay for both ON and OFF transitions to suppress contact bounce and line noise.
2. Sinking Input Electrical Configuration: Source-Level Field Device Rule: 1746-IB16 is strictly speaking a module that only supports sinking current. It requires the use of a PNP type field sensor or dry contacts to switch the positive voltage rail (+24V DC) to the channel terminal.
Common Terminal Connection: To complete the circuit, the terminal marked "DC COM" (or "Common") on the module's front panel terminal block must be directly connected to the negative terminal (-24V DC) of the external field power supply.
Voltage Limitation: The field loop must provide a nominal 24V DC signal. The hardware can detect conduction between 10V and 30V DC and guarantees cutoff between 0V and 5V DC.
