The 6AV6640-0BA11-0AX0 (SIMATIC OP 73micro) is a small industrial human-machine interface (HMI) designed specifically for Siemens S7-200 PLCs. It features a 3-inch STN display and four programmable function keys, making it suitable for compact field control.
This device communicates via an RS485 interface, supports configuration using WinCC flexible software, and has a high protection rating, commonly used for local monitoring. Its operation is based on an embedded system running on an internal processor. It communicates bidirectionally with the PLC via the RS485 interface using the PPI/MPI protocol, reading and displaying data, while simultaneously converting membrane keyboard commands into real-time control signals and transmitting them to the PLC.

Because this Human-Machine Interface (HMI) falls into the traditional hardware-specific "micro" category, the following software limitations exist:
S7-200 Lockout: The OP 73micro's firmware explicitly restricts its communication with the SIMATIC S7-200 CPU. It cannot map variables or read tags from older S5 series racks or newer S7-300, S7-1200, or S7-1500 racks.
Engineering Tools: Configuration and screen generation require the standard version of WinCC flexible Micro or WinCC flexible (versions 2004 SP1 to 2008) and the Micro Hardware Support Package (HSP). Modern TIA Portal (Comfort/Advanced/Unified) engineering platforms do not support this functionality at all.
Display Structure: 3-inch STN monochrome LCD screen (backlit, black and white display, supports graphics display). Screen Resolution: 160 x 48 pixels.
Control Interface: Physical membrane keypad with 8 system keys and 4 user-programmable function keys.
Input Voltage: 24V DC (operating voltage range 20.4V to 28.8V DC).
