Information

Overview Manuals Principle Primary Applications

Features:

  • 991 Thrust Transmitter
  • A Power-up Inhibit circuit eliminates signal errors due to line voltage transients
  • Non-interacting zero and span potentiometers under the Transmitter label supports loop adjustment
The 991 Thrust Transmitter is intended primarily for the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) of centrifugal air compressors or small pumps, motors, or fans who prefer to provide a simple 4 to 20 mA proportional axial displacement (thrust) signal as the input to their machinery control system.

The transmitter is a 2-wire, loop-powered device that accepts input from our 3300 NSv proximity probe and its matching extension cable (available in 5 m and 7 m system length options). The transmitter conditions the signal into appropriate engineering units proportional to the shaft’s axial position1, and provides it as a 4 to 20 mA industry-standard signal for input to the control system where machinery protection alarming and logic occurs.

The 991-25-50-01-05 Bently Nevada 991 Thrust Transmitter may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
Bently Nevada 991-25-50-01-05 991 Thrust Transmitter Manuals(Datasheets), Link Important Notice: Other accessories, manuals, cables, calibration data, software, etc. are not included with this equipment unless listed in the above stock item description. All prices are shown in USD.
Probe adjustment and range are critical in thrust position measurements. Incorrect probe gap settings may prevent the transmitter from reaching full-scale in either the normal or counter directions (no machinery monitoring). For proper adjustment, follow the instructions in the manual.
The Type 991 transmitter is primarily targeted at original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) of small, non-critical mechanical equipment that requires simple interface connections with control systems or PLCs. Common applications include:
Centrifugal air compressors: typically employing hydrodynamic thrust bearings.
Small pumps and fans: suitable for higher-cost rack-mount monitoring systems.
Industrial motors: monitoring axial position to prevent contact between internal components.
PRODUCT & ORDER FAQS

Questions buyers ask about 991-25-50-01-05

  • For which specific industrial environments is the 991-25-50-01-05 designed for non-contact axial displacement measurement?

The 991-25-50-01-05 is primarily used in space-constrained "small machinery" environments, such as centrifugal pumps, small compressors, and motors. As a standalone 4-20 mA transmitter, the 991-25-50-01-05 integrates the functions of a proximity sensor and signal conditioner, providing a simplified solution for axial thrust position monitoring of rotating equipment.
  • How does the "25-50" configuration in the 991-25-50-01-05 model name determine its full-scale measurement range and sensitivity?

In the alphanumeric string of the 991-25-50-01-05, the "25" and "50" parameters define the calibrated linear envelope. Specifically, the 991-25-50-01-05 is designed with a thrust range of 50-0-50 mil (or ±1.27 mm) and converts this physical displacement into a standardized current loop output. This configuration ensures that the 991-25-50-01-05 can track the rotor's relative position within its thrust bearing clearance with high fidelity.
  • How does the 991-25-50-01-05 optimize signal integration with a distributed control system (DCS) or PLC?

The 991-25-50-01-05 uses a two-wire, loop-powered 4-20 mA interface. Unlike traditional proximity switches that require a separate rack-mount display, the 991-25-50-01-05 can communicate directly with the control system. This "field-to-DCS" architecture allows the 991-25-50-01-05 to provide critical status data without additional intermediate hardware, thereby reducing overall system complexity and cabling costs.
  • What specific technical advantages does the

The "01" parameter in the 991-25-50-01-05 model name indicates support for 35mm DIN rail mounting, while "05" indicates that it has obtained certifications from multiple organizations (such as ATEX/IECEx and CSA). This synergy ensures that the 991-25-50-01-05 can be securely installed within a local instrument housing while meeting the most stringent intrinsic safety requirements for explosive gas environments.
  • To what extent does the 991-25-50-01-05 mitigate the effects of parasitic capacitance and

The 991-25-50-01-05 is designed for system lengths of 5 meters or 7 meters. Utilizing advanced internal temperature compensation circuitry, the 991-25-50-01-05 maintains its calibration accuracy even under fluctuating field temperatures. This ensures that the 991-25-50-01-05's output remains linear and repeatable, providing a reliable "real data source" for mechanical protection.
  • Why is the 991-25-50-01-05 crucial for predictive maintenance programs in hydrocarbon processing equipment?

The 991-25-50-01-05 provides continuous, real-time feedback on thrust bearing health. By detecting minute changes in the shaft's axial position, the 991-25-50-01-05 enables reliability engineers to perform trend analysis and prevent catastrophic contact between the rotor and stator. The robust design of the 991-25-50-01-05 makes it a cornerstone of "asset condition management" in modern industrial plants.
