Product Information:

The MVI69-MNET is a single-slot backplane interconnect Modbus TCP/IP network communication module developed by ProSoft Technology specifically for Rockwell Automation's Allen-Bradley CompactLogix series (based on the 1769 bus) PLC processors.

The MVI69-MNET is installed as a bridge in the PLC's local or remote I/O rack, utilizing a backplane communication mechanism similar to ordinary I/O modules to establish a bidirectional data exchange channel between the CompactLogix controller and an external Ethernet network.

The MVI69-MNET is widely used in hybrid industrial automation systems with high protocol compatibility requirements, such as in manufacturing, oil and gas refining, power dispatching, and food processing industries. In terms of system architecture, this module features powerful protocol conversion and dual-role processing capabilities, natively supporting simultaneous operation as a Modbus TCP/IP client (client/master) and server (server/slave).

Information

Overview Manuals Practical Application Use Cases

Features:

  • Modbus TCP/IP Communication Module
  • Single-slot 1769 CompactLogix chassis module, powered entirely via the backplane (draws 800 mA at 5.1 Vdc)
  • Natively supports simultaneous operation as a Modbus TCP/IP Client (Master) and a Modbus TCP/IP Server (Slave)
The MVI69-MNET is a Modbus TCP/IP communication module from ProSoft Technology. It can connect to Rockwell Automation's CompactLogix or MicroLogix processors. A compatible power supply is required for installation. An empty slot must be provided in the chassis for installation. The module requires 800 mA of current.

When installing the MVI69-MNET, it is recommended to follow the installation instructions in the manufacturer's manual and comply with local safety regulations. Power to the system and peripheral devices must be turned off before connecting the module to the chassis. Before powering on, ensure all connections are secure and correct.

The MVI69-MNET PROSOFT Modbus TCP/IP Communication Module may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

The MVI69-MNET is widely used in factory workshops to establish deterministic multi-vendor bridging:

Multi-brand PLC crosstalk: As an uncompressed network channel, it enables CompactLogix processors to directly poll data or issue control commands to Schneider Electric Modicon PLCs or Siemens controllers configured as Modbus TCP servers.

Sub-device cluster integration: Deployed as a centralized data acquisition unit for monitoring dedicated peripheral devices such as frequency converters (VFDs), instruments, flow meters, and SCADA monitoring nodes.

Legacy grid migration: Allows legacy remote terminal units (RTUs) or engine management panels communicating via Modbus TCP to transmit real-time tank diagnostics or pump control data to new Rockwell controller tags.

Technical notes

The ProSoft Technology MVI69-MNET is a single-slot Modbus TCP/IP baseband communication module designed specifically for Rockwell Allen-Bradley CompactLogix and MicroLogix 1500 systems. It serves as an asynchronous I/O module between the PLC processor and Ethernet, featuring 5000 virtual registers of 16-bit words. Supporting 10/100 Base-T high-speed network communication, it can function as either a Modbus TCP/IP client (master) or server (slave). Offering 1500 Vrms of electrical isolation and broadcast storm protection, it operates stably in industrial environments from 0°C to 60°C, enabling seamless integration of third-party Modbus devices with Rockwell automation architectures.
