Typical Application Scenarios
Features:
- Common for all PROFIBUS master
- PROFIBUS Economy plus Bus Coupler
- The physical interface between the PROFIBUS DP network and the Beckhoff bus terminal
Modular terminal block assemblies contain bus terminals for various functions, thus limiting the number of unused channels to a maximum of one per function. One terminal containing two channels represents the optimal balance between the number of unused channels and the cost per channel. Achieving electrical isolation through potential-fed terminals also helps reduce the number of unused channels.
In practical applications, the total width consists of the width of the bus coupler with the KL9010 bus terminals and the width of the bus terminals used.Depending on the function, the width of the bus terminals is 12 mm or 24 mm.Front wiring will increase the total height from 68 mm by approximately 5 mm to 10 mm, depending on wire gauge.
The BK3120 BECKHOFF PROFIBUS Economy plus Bus Coupler may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

- The BK3120 is designed to handle high data volumes and complex terminal configurations in the following fields:
- Manufacturing and Assembly Lines: For managing discrete sensors (limit switches, photoelectric sensors) and actuators (valves, motors) at specific workstations on the production line.
- Machine Tools and CNC: Provides rack expansion for multi-axis CNC machine tools and motion control systems, enabling the central controller to manage high-precision motion.
- Automotive Factories: Manages the I/O of production units, typically for handling safety interlock signals in stamping operations.
- Process Control: Integrates as a remote I/O node into water, electricity, and infrastructure systems for precise monitoring and uninterrupted data transmission.
- Building Automation: Acquires and integrates various I/O signals for large building management systems.
- Packaging Machinery: Leverages its modular flexibility to quickly adapt to different packaging configurations and high-speed operations.
