The 6ES7336-4GE00-0AB0 is a fail-safe analog input module (SM 336) from the Siemens SIMATIC S7-300 series, primarily used in ET 200M distributed I/O systems. Designed to meet the high safety requirements of process industries and discrete manufacturing, this module can directly acquire current signals of 4 to 20 mA (or 0 to 20 mA) from hazardous areas. It meets the highest international functional safety standards, achieving a maximum SIL 2/PLd level in single-channel use and a maximum SIL 3/PLe level in dual-redundant configurations. This module is widely used in critical process control scenarios such as emergency shutdown (ESD), fire and gas monitoring (F&G), and boiler protection.
This module features high integration and comprehensive internal hardware diagnostics, fully supporting the standard PROFIsafe safety communication protocol. It integrates six independent analog input channels, each supporting independent hardware-level fault detection, including open circuit, short circuit, out-of-range, and current upper and lower limits. During actual operation and system maintenance, it not only verifies the integrity of sensor data in real time but also supports hot-swapping, allowing for seamless module replacement without interrupting system operation.
The 6ES7336-4GE00-0AB0 Siemens Analog Input Module may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

As a fail-safe module (F module), this module has passed international authoritative certifications, with individual modules achieving a maximum SIL 3 level (compliant with IEC 61508 standard) and PL e/4 level (compliant with ISO 13849-1/EN 954-1 standard).
This module employs a redundant dual-processor architecture, enabling rigorous self-testing of current inputs (e.g., open-circuit, short-circuit cross-detection, and cross-reading comparison).
The core principle of the 6ES7336-4GE00-0AB0 is its internal dual-channel (1002) microprocessor redundancy architecture and PROFIsafe safety bus communication mechanism. When a sensor current signal enters the module, it is simultaneously sent to two completely independent internal analog-to-digital converters (A/D) and internal processor channels. These two processors employ different hardware logic and software algorithms to perform high-speed cyclic sampling, conversion, and internal comparison (cross-checking) of the same analog signal.
If the difference between the calculation results of the two channels exceeds a preset safety margin, or if the module detects an open circuit in the sensor or a short circuit in the external circuit through its onboard hardware diagnostic circuitry, the module will immediately activate fault-safe protection, forcibly switching the output value to a preset safety value (e.g., 0 or the minimum safe reading) and issuing an alarm to the main control system.
At the communication level, the module packages the processed data and adds the dynamic timestamp, serial number (CRC check), and security signature required by the PROFIsafe protocol. Then, it uploads the data to the Siemens F-CPU (such as S7-400H or S7-1500F) via the backplane bus, thereby ensuring that the control logic can operate stably with the highest fault tolerance at both the hardware and protocol levels.
