- Features high-speed synchronization operating at 1.5 Mbps
- Integrates 1 built-in AF100 modem per physical module
The CI820V1 3BSE025255R1 is a high-performance, high-reliability redundant fieldbus communication interface module suitable for S800 I/O systems. This module primarily functions as a communication bridge, seamlessly connecting various digital and analog S800 I/O modules distributed across industrial fields to ABB's Advant Fieldbus 100 (AF 100) high-speed fieldbus network. It is a critical gateway in the entire distributed control system (DCS).
The CI820V1 has a built-in dual-channel communication interface, which supports forming a dual-machine hot standby redundant pair with another identical interface module. When the main communication link, cable or module hardware fails suddenly, the system can achieve seamless millisecond-level fault switching without interrupting on-site production and operation.
The CI820V1 3BSE025255R1 ABB Communication interface unit may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

The CI820V1 is a plug-in processor module that requires a compatible electrical backplane to connect terminal cables:
Certified Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU): Must be plugged into a TU846 or TU847 module terminal unit. Mechanical error protection: Employs factory hardware error protection code "AA" to prevent accidental mis-insertion with other network interface cards.
Electrical isolation: Standard embedded safety shielding layer with a rated voltage up to 500 V RMS shields against voltage differences between the backplane and field cabling circuitry.
The CI820V1 prioritizes uninterrupted network data transmission, making it widely used in large-scale industrial applications with extremely high uptime requirements:
Distributed Control Systems (DCS): It routes local field parameters from remote tank farms, sensor matrices, or motor control centers back to the central logic solver without requiring excessive signal cabling.
Continuous Process Networks: Manages critical automation loops in chemical, petrochemical, manufacturing, and energy industries, where communication interruptions can lead to entire production line shutdowns.
