It not only carries the device's control plane logic but also manages system startup, configuration file loading, and operating system software updates through an integrated control processor. In terms of functional architecture, this module integrates the core routing engine and network management interface.
It supports complex Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocol calculations (such as OSPF and BGP) and policy management, ensuring efficient forwarding and path selection for all network devices. Simultaneously, the CMM provides rich local and remote management methods, including a console serial port, Ethernet management port, and redundant link functionality.

The OS9600/OS9700-CMM communicates with all guide rail boards via an internal mid-board bus and collects sensor data from each hardware unit using a dedicated management channel. Its core processor runs the AOS operating system and is responsible for maintaining the global routing table (RIB) and distributing it to the hardware forwarding engine (ASIC) of each service board. Simultaneously, it monitors system health through a continuous hardware heartbeat detection mechanism. If the primary module fails, the backup module will take over control based on real-time synchronized configuration data, thus achieving high system availability.
