Installation and Maintenance Tips
Features:
- Allen Bradley ControlLogix 3 feet (0.91 meters)
- Two identical redundant power supplies are typically mounted on dedicated rails outside the rack to share the load current
- A passive rack power adapter module 1756-PSCA2 will be inserted into the power slot of the frame
The 1756-CPR2 is an inter-rack redundant cable designed specifically for Rockwell Automation's ControlLogix redundant systems. This cable connects two independent ControlLogix redundant racks (typically equipped with 1756-L6x or 1756-L7x controllers), ensuring seamless synchronization of high-speed data streams between the primary and backup control racks. It is the fundamental physical connection for building highly available control networks for industrial automation.
The 1756-CPR2 plays an irreplaceable role in ensuring superior system maintainability and fault tolerance. It features excellent electromagnetic interference (EMI) immunity and is typically 2 meters long, allowing engineers to strategically position primary and backup racks within control cabinets for proper physical isolation. Through this dedicated cable, redundant modules (such as 1756-RM or 1756-RRM) on two racks can achieve complete symmetrical "mirror mapping" synchronization of controller program code, I/O variables, tag data, and forced states.
The 1756-CPR2 Allen Bradley ControlLogix Redundant Supply Cable may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

The standard 1756-CPR2 uses a straight molded connector. In situations with limited control cabinet space or where the rack side panel is too close to the cable tray, its bending radius (12.7 cm) may cause cable compression or obstruct cabinet door closure.
Therefore, the official manufacturer offers a 90° bend type connector:
1756-CPR2: Standard straight connector (0.91 m in length).
1756-CPR2D: Down-bend type, connector cable leads downwards, suitable for layouts with cable trays below the rack.
1756-CPR2U: Up-bend type, connector cable leads upwards.
Note: When using the bend type (D/U), a clearance of at least 10.16 cm (4.0 inch) is required next to the rack adapter.
Do Not Forcibly Fold: Due to the use of high-specification multi-core thickened copper wire internally (for transmitting low-voltage, high-current), ensure sufficient bending space when wiring. Do not bend excessively, as this may cause internal single-strand wires to break, triggering voltage drop alarms on certain voltage rails (e.g., 3.3V).
Buy a Kit for Better Value: If you are configuring a new system, Rockwell Automation offers a variety of kit options. For example, purchasing the 1756-PAR2 kit directly includes: 2 PA75R power supplies + 1 PSCA2 adapter + 2 1756-CPR2 cables, without needing to order separately.
