The UR9GH is a high-performance microprocessor CPU module developed by GE Multilin, specifically designed for general-purpose relay (UR) systems. As the core control unit for power and industrial automation systems, it boasts powerful digital signal processing capabilities and high-speed computing performance, enabling the execution of complex logic control algorithms. This module supports multiple industrial communication protocols, including Modbus TCP/IP, DNP 3.0, and IEC 61850, and is equipped with RS485 and 10Base-F fiber optic Ethernet interfaces, enabling seamless connectivity and efficient data exchange within substation automation systems.
In terms of advanced features, the UR9GH module integrates advanced time synchronization technology and network redundancy mechanisms. It supports IEEE 1588 (Precision Time Protocol), enabling microsecond-level synchronization between network devices, thus ensuring millisecond-level high-resolution timestamps for Sequences of Events (SOEs).

When maintaining or expanding a GE Multilin UR chassis, ensuring that the CPU module generation matches the specific I/O module is crucial:
CT/VT Mismatch Error: If a newer "9G" series CPU (e.g., UR9GH) is paired with an older current transformer/voltage transformer (CT/VT) input module, a general-purpose relay will issue an engineering error code indicating hardware incompatibility.
Standard I/O Stability: Other non-analog I/O components (e.g., basic digital input/output cards) are unaffected by this generational bottleneck and will function correctly with this CPU.
The UR9GH employs a microprocessor-based real-time data acquisition, logic operation, and command output loop. It works in conjunction with current transformers (CT/VT) and digital input modules to receive real-time current, voltage, and switch status signals from the power grid or industrial equipment.
Subsequently, its internal 800 MHz processor invokes advanced protection algorithms and logic control architecture preset in the firmware to quickly calculate and compare the input data. Once the system detects a power fault or abnormal operating condition, the UR9GH will make a rapid decision within 2 milliseconds, issuing an action command to the relay output module to isolate the fault, and simultaneously sending a real-time event log to the field control center via Ethernet.
