It is an enhanced network interface module that can support both master and slave communication. The MVI56E-MCM enhanced network interface module functions as the interface between a ControlLogix processor and various Modbus devices. It can be installed in a local or remote rack. The MVI56E-MCM enhanced network interface module supports a wide operating temperature range of 32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit and a wide storage temperature range of -40 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit.
The MVI56E-MCM module supports master and/or slave connections between ControlLogix processors and Modbus RTU/ASCII devices. This module is backward compatible with older MVI56 modules, meaning users can directly replace older modules without modifying their existing controller software. The MVI56E-MCM module boasts a 10,000-word database, enabling it to collect more data from other devices and thus improve performance.
The MVI56E-MCM PROSOFT Enhanced communication module may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

This feature of the MVI56E-MCM module also allows users to fully utilize its enhanced functionality and flexibility without incurring costly reprogramming. By acting as an input/output module on the ControlLogix backplane, the MVI56E-MCM module presents Modbus data to the processor as I/O data. Furthermore, it features cross-detection capabilities.
