- EGCP-3 CONTROL OPERATOR INTERFACE MODULE
- Designed specifically for controlling the speed and load of industrial engines and turbines
- Provides stable, responsive, and highly reliable engine speed regulation
The Woodward 8406-113 is an electronic governor module for industrial engine and turbine control systems. Its primary function is to regulate engine or turbine speed according to load changes by adjusting fuel or energy input. By maintaining precise speed control, the module ensures efficient operation, prevents overspeeding, and supports stable power generation or mechanical drive performance in industrial applications.
In practical applications, the 8406-113 improves the operating efficiency and reliability of power plants, marine engines, and industrial machinery. It allows operators to maintain target speeds under load fluctuations and can be integrated with other control systems for automated operation. The module's robust design ensures continuous and stable operation even in harsh environments, including temperature variations, vibration, and electrical noise common in industrial environments.
The 8406-113 Woodward OPERATOR INTERFACE MODULE may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

This module uses sensors to continuously monitor the engine or turbine speed and compares the measured values with setpoints. When a deviation occurs, the controller calculates the necessary adjustments and sends control signals to the fuel actuator or control valve to regulate fuel flow, thereby maintaining the target speed. Through this feedback-based adjustment method, the 8406-113 module ensures stable, accurate, and responsive speed control under dynamic operating conditions.
The 8406-113 is primarily used in demanding power generation environments, such as those requiring the synchronization and management of multiple generator sets on the same bus:
1. Load Balancing: Supports isochronous or droop load balancing for up to 16 units, with percentage-based load distribution.
2. Synchronization: Manages phase-matching or slip frequency synchronization and automatically matches circuit breaker or contactor voltages.
3. Critical Facilities: Widely used in hospitals, data centers, and offshore platforms to ensure seamless switching during power outages.
4. Industrial Plants: Supports backup and main power systems for manufacturing and processing facilities.
