Primary Applications
Features:
- Operates on a standard 24 Vdc system supply (\(\pm 10\%\)) with a maximum internal current consumption of 100 mA
- Connects to the main controller chassis using specialized companion slot cabling (such as the TC-801 internal line)
- Allowing up to three SOFTA units to link to a single speed monitor card for redundant deployment
The ICS Triplex T8891C is a reliable series of speed output field terminal assemblies (FTAs) designed for the safety protection of rotating machinery. Its core function is as the physical output interface for the T8442 Triple Redundancy (TMR) speed monitoring module, which converts the speed status calculated internally by the control system into electrical signals that drive field devices.
This module typically provides two key outputs: the first is an overspeed trip signal, which directly controls the emergency shut-off valve or shutdown solenoid valve in the field via high-reliability relay contacts, ensuring safe shutdown before the turbine or compressor runs out of control; the second is a speed retransmission signal, which typically transmits real-time speed data to a DCS or other monitoring system for display and recording in the form of an analog signal (e.g., 4-20mA).
The T8891C ICS Triplex Speed Output Field Terminal Assembly may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

The T8891C is designed for critical rotational safety and is widely used in the following specialized industrial machinery applications:
Emergency Turbine Trip System (ETS): When the T8442 monitoring module detects an overspeed condition, it quickly sends a trip command to the hydraulic trip valve or fuel isolation valve.
Compressor Surge Control: Provides a high-response output signal for the regulating valves or pressure relief valves of high-speed centrifugal compressors to prevent mechanical damage.
Governor System Interface: Allows stable analog or digital speed reference signals to be directly input to active turbine governors.
