Critical Compliance in AADvance's Safety Architecture
Applications
Features:
- Blank cover (short version) for I/O locations with terminal adapters (TA) or processors
- It adopts an industry-standard IP20 physical dustproof design and is mainly installed on the base plate of the AADvance system
- The internal design features a precise snap-fit structure specifically designed to physically lock and engage with the slot above which a physical terminal component or processor base has already been installed
The T9193 is a short slot shielding cover, a key physical component of Rockwell Automation's ICS Triplex brand AADvance safety control system (widely used in high-safety industrial environments at SIL 2/SIL 3 levels). Its primary function is to provide reliable physical protection for unused slots where terminal equipment (TA) or processors are installed but I/O modules are not yet inserted.
Furthermore, this component plays a crucial supporting role in optimizing the overall electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of the rack and ensuring system structural integrity. In the highly redundant, high-frequency data communication backplane architecture of the ICS Triplex, any unprotected empty slot can act like an open "antenna," easily absorbing radiated noise from a strong electromagnetic environment or causing internal cooling airflow imbalance. The T9193, constructed from highly flame-retardant materials such as impact-resistant polycarbonate, creates a continuous electromagnetic shielding boundary throughout the control station and regulates internal cooling airflow when inserted into the rack.
The T9193 ICS triplex Blanking Cover Module may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

The T9193 baffle in AADvance Emergency Stop (ESD) and Fire & Gas (F&G) systems is not merely for aesthetics; it directly impacts the system's functional safety and Safety Integrity Level (SIL3):
Electric Shock Protection and Physical Isolation: During continuous system operation (live maintenance), the T9193 baffle completely isolates the system, preventing accidental secondary electrical faults caused by field electricians' tools, screwdrivers, or fingers coming into contact with adjacent live pins, as adjacent cards and backplanes typically have a 24V DC interlock control voltage.
Airflow and Heat Dissipation: Within a sealed industrial safety cabinet, the T9193 baffle seals the entire rack's physical airflow channels, preventing significant leakage of cooling air from unused slots, thus ensuring sufficient convective cooling efficiency for high-heat processors or intelligent safety I/O modules operating on both sides.
1.Pre-wired Expansion Slots: Engineering teams typically install backplanes and rear-facing cabling (TA) components during the first phase of construction.
2.Temporary Slot Protection: Eliminates the need to expose the front slot before purchasing expensive I/O electronics modules such as the T9401 or T9431. Simply clip the T9193 short cover onto the pre-installed TA to ensure the slot remains safe and clean before deploying new cards.
3.Prevents Accidental Contact: When removing a faulty security I/O card for repair, internal backplane pins and TA contacts become energized at 24V DC logic or signal voltage. Immediately installing the T9193 into an empty slot protects maintenance technicians from accidental electric shock.
4.Eliminates Short Circuits: Prevents conductive objects (such as loose screws, washers, or hand-held screwdrivers) from accidentally falling into the exposed slot, thus avoiding short circuits in adjacent active safety loops.
5.Optimizes Airflow: An empty slot provides a path of least resistance for cooling air, allowing ventilation to bypass the running processor. Reduce hot spots: Installing the T9193 cover plate effectively seals physical gaps in the rack, maintaining the design pressure and airflow between adjacent operating modules, thereby preventing overheating.
