Product Information:

The ICS Triplex T9832 (manufactured by Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley AADvance) is a 16-channel dual-redundant isolated analog input terminal block (TA). It serves as a field physical interface for critical analog sensors, such as pressure transmitters, flow meters, or RTD converters.

The T9832 can simultaneously split and route input analog signals to two active analog input modules (such as the T9431 or T9432) side-by-side on the backplane. This dual-channel configuration provides high availability and fault tolerance and is Safety Integrity Level 3 (SIL 3) certified under IEC 61508.

Information

Overview Manuals Functional Safety & Compliance Operating principle

Features:

  • 16 analog input channels configured for Dual (redundant) or TMR (Triple Modular Redundant) operational topologies
  • Standard process inputs supporting 0 to 20 mA and 4 to 20 mA configurations
  • Features a commoned or simplex field loop architecture designed to safely distribute loop power across high-density field arrays
The core function of the T9832 is to centrally and densely connect and regulate 0–24mA (including standard 4–20mA) analog current signals generated by precision field instruments. It provides 16 physical wiring channels for direct connection to various process transmitters, such as temperature, pressure, and flow transmitters, converting their analog electrical signals into standard digital variables recognizable by the system. This component not only provides a standardized field wiring environment for high-density, multi-channel sensor arrays but also ensures extremely high real-time data acquisition accuracy, laying the foundation for demanding process control applications.

In addition to basic signal conversion functions, the T9832 integrates key electrical explosion-proof isolation, fault protection, and dual hardware redundancy design. Its internal channels employ ±1.5 kVdc current isolation, completely eliminating ground loop interference and inter-channel crosstalk, ensuring that even if one sensor suffers physical damage, it will not affect the operation of adjacent channels.

The T9832 ICS triplex Analog Input FTA Module may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

The T9832 is also independently certified by TÜV Rheinland, conforms to the IEC 61508 standard, and can be used in safety-critical circuits with redundant configurations, achieving a maximum safety level of SIL 3. It is widely used in harsh industrial applications such as oil and gas emergency shutdown (ESD), fire and gas (F&G) monitoring, and boiler combustion management, where even a loose wire or signal failure can trigger a catastrophic system failure.
The T9832 employs current loop shunt acquisition technology and a bidirectional backplane routing mechanism at the physical layer. When a field sensor generates a 4–20mA analog current signal and flows through the corresponding physical channel of the T9832, the signal first passes through its dedicated 50mA protection fuse and is then shunt to its built-in high-precision load resistor (typically 135Ω), thus accurately converting the abstract current intensity into easily acquireable micro-amplitude voltage fluctuations. Subsequently, the printed circuit board (PCB) traces inside the terminal element simultaneously split this field voltage signal into two paths and route them in parallel to two redundant T9431/2 analog input modules inserted into the backplane.
These two modules simultaneously perform independent analog-to-digital (A/D) conversion and built-in diagnostic tests on the signal, ultimately providing the signal to the AADvance processor for voting and comparison, thereby achieving uninterrupted redundant signal acquisition and real-time monitoring at the hardware level.

Technical notes

The ICS Triplex T9832 is a dual-redundant 16-channel analog input terminal block for AADvance safety and process control systems. This terminal block is designed to meet the high safety and availability requirements of industrial control loops. It is specifically designed for use with two T9431 or T9432 analog input modules, and its physical architecture supports dual-redundant signal termination and parallel hot-repair. Electrically, it integrates 16 fully isolated, field-accessible analog input channels, supporting a standard operating voltage of 18–32 V DC and current input signals of 0–24 mA. Each channel is independently equipped with a 50 mA/125 V Type T miniature protection fuse (with non-destructive in-line replacement), a precision sampling resistor (135 Ω), and transient voltage suppression (TVS) surge protection circuitry.
