- Trusted Communications Cables
The ICS Triplex TC-311-02 is a high-reliability unidirectional local extension cable assembly (1-way) designed for critical safety control systems. As a dedicated component for Rockwell Automation's Trusted Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) control system, it primarily enables direct communication between the T8311 extender interface module and the T8310 extender processor.
This cable ensures seamless, microsecond-level synchronous transmission of input/output (I/O) data and control commands between the master and extender base stations by providing a high-bandwidth, deterministic data path. Furthermore, the component offers superior fault tolerance and industrial-grade durability. Its cable physical structure effectively resists high-frequency electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI), and it is designed for uninterrupted operation of safety instrumented systems (SIS).
The TC-311-02 ICS Triplex Local Expansion Cable Assembly, 1 way (2m) may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

1. Chassis-to-Chassis Bus Expansion:
Main Rack to Expansion Rack Connection: The primary purpose of the TC-311-02 is to connect the T8311 Trusted Extender Interface Module (located within the main controller chassis) to the T8310 Extender Processor Module (located within the extender chassis).
Multi-point Distributed I/O: It enables the main controller processor to communicate deterministically with remote or additional input/output (I/O) chassis via a local high-speed bus, achieving seamless system expansion.
2. SIL 3 Safety Applications:
Because this cable retains the fully redundant architecture of the Trusted Platform, it is typically suitable for systems requiring SIL 3 (Safety Integrity Level 3) certification.
Core industrial loop applications include: Emergency Stop (ESD) Systems: Connecting auxiliary I/O chassis containing safety-critical field trip valves and emergency disconnect switches.
Fire and Gas (F&G) Systems: Suitable for large-scale multi-chassis deployments requiring connection of numerous fire, gas, and smoke detectors to the central processing unit.
Burner Management System (BMS): Used in expander links within complex boiler or furnace environments where absolute time control and fault isolation are essential.
3. Enclosed and Fire-Sensitive Environments The specific "-02" designation indicates a Low Smoke Halogen-Free (LSZH) enclosure. This directly determines its application in specific harsh or confined physical spaces:
Offshore Platforms and Ships: Deployed in locations where toxic gas emissions during a fire would pose a significant hazard to personnel within the enclosed control room.
Petrochemical and Refinery Control Rooms: Used for sealed control rooms to meet international plant fire safety standards (e.g., IEC 60332-3 Class A).
Power Plant and Nuclear Power Control Systems: Used in locations with high levels of electromagnetic interference (EMI); its thick internal shielding protects critical extended data from interference from adjacent high-voltage lines.
