Features:
- Modicon Quantum - backplane expander cable - 2 m
- Optimized exclusively for the legacy Modicon Quantum series, working directly in tandem with the 140XBE10000 backplane expander module
- Features a fixed 2-meter length (approx. 6.56 feet) with factory pre-terminated connectors on both ends for immediate, reliable plug-and-play installation
The 140XCA71706 model is a backplane extension cable from Schneider Electric's Modicon Quantum series. This cable is designed to enhance connectivity in field devices, ensuring seamless communication. Its 2-meter length is sufficient for various configuration needs. Both ends of the cable are equipped with PROFIBUS connectors for reliable connections in automation systems. Made of durable PVC material, the cable can withstand everyday industrial use and maintain stable performance.
Under non-condensing conditions, this cable can withstand operating and storage humidity up to 80%. Therefore, it is suitable for both operational and storage applications. Furthermore, this cable can operate normally at altitudes of 1000 meters without affecting its performance. The cable has an IP20 protection rating, indicating good dustproof and shock resistance. It is also CE certified, proving its compliance with safety and environmental standards.
The 140XCA71706 Schneider Electric Backplane expander cable may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Once the hardware configuration is downloaded to the Modicon Quantum CPU, the programming logic treats modules on the expansion rack exactly the same as modules on the main rack.
1.Direct Addressing: If you place a 16-channel discrete input module in slot 4 of rack 2 and map it to the starting address %I00100, your ladder logic or structured text only needs to read variables %I00100 to %I00115.
2.No Special Communication Module Required: Unlike remote distributed I/O (which requires network read/write modules such as RECV, XMIT, or point-to-point instructions), the 140XCA71706 routes data via a high-speed internal backplane bus. No dedicated programming module is required to retrieve data from the second rack.
3.Deterministic Scan Time: Because it is a local backplane expansion, I/O updates occur deterministically within a standard CPU scan cycle, meaning your program does not need to consider network propagation latency or timeouts.
Because the Modicon Quantum platform is designed for high reliability and hot-swappability, this cable is commonly used in the following applications:
1.Water and wastewater treatment: Connecting hundreds of local digital inputs (valve limit switches, pump status) and analog inputs (flow meters, level sensors) within the main control panel of a filtration or pumping station.
2.Chemical and petrochemical plants: Connecting dense arrays of intrinsically safe analog modules for monitoring temperature, pressure, and gas sensors in skid-mounted local processing units.
3.Power generation (hydropower/thermal power): Directly routing local high-speed generator telemetry and turbine control signals back to the main CPU rack with near-zero latency.
4.Mining and material handling: Managing large interlocked conveyor systems, motor control centers (MCCs), and weighing equipment integrated into a single large multi-rack control cabinet.
