Important Application Constraints
Features:
- Industrial SINAMICS PM240-2 Power Module designed for variable-frequency drive (VFD) applications
- It operates as the muscle component of a modular Siemens G120 drive system
- Requiring a separate Control Unit (such as a CU240E-2) and an operator panel to form a fully operational frequency inverter
The Siemens 6SL3210-1PE21-4UL0 is a high-performance SINAMICS PM240-2 power module designed specifically for industrial drive systems. As a core component of the Siemens SINAMICS G120 series inverters, this module features an FSB form factor (Type B rack) and IP20 protection. It is suitable for various three-phase AC power grids from 380V to 480V and is primarily used to provide adjustable frequency and voltage power output for industrial three-phase asynchronous motors.
This power module features a simple, filterless design and integrates a built-in braking chopper. Users can flexibly connect external filters or braking resistors according to field electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements to dissipate regenerative energy generated during motor deceleration. In terms of hardware architecture, this module must be used in conjunction with a Siemens-compatible control unit (CU) to achieve vector control, energy-saving operation, and complex fieldbus communication functions.
The 6SL3210-1PE21-4UL0 Siemens Compact Power Module may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

1. High Overload (HO) Applications: In high overload mode, the module outputs 4.0 kW (5.0 hp). It provides a powerful instantaneous current boost (200% for 3 seconds, 150% for 57 seconds) to overcome heavy loads with high static friction or rapid acceleration.
This setting is suitable for constant torque and high inertia loads, including:
Conveying Systems: Heavy-duty horizontal and vertical belt conveyors, roller conveyors, and chain conveyors requiring strong initial starting torque.
Material Handling and Lifting: Industrial lifts, small gantry cranes, elevators, and automated storage/retrieval mechanisms.
Processing Machinery: Centrifuges, mixers, industrial agitators, and escalators, which encounter fluctuating high-resistance loads during cyclic startup.
2. Low Overload (LO) Applications: In low overload mode, the module provides a continuous output of 5.5 kW (7.5 hp). Reduced overload tolerances (150% for 3 seconds, 110% for 57 seconds) ensure extremely high energy efficiency for the stable system. This configuration is specifically designed for secondary torque loads (fluid dynamic machinery), including:
Centrifugal pumps: Standard industrial water supply pumps, cooling circulation loops, and wastewater treatment pumps.
HVAC fans and blowers: Factory air handling units, exhaust fans, and drying chambers, whose torque requirements vary smoothly with operating speed.
Continuous compressors: Positive displacement and screw air compressors operating under stable load conditions.
Requires dynamic braking? This specific SKU includes a built-in braking chopper. For applications requiring emergency stops or reverse circulation (such as vertical elevators or high-inertia centrifuges), you can connect an external braking resistor directly to terminals R1 and R2 to safely dissipate regenerative energy.
Unfiltered characteristics: As an unfiltered drive module, it is typically used in factory networks employing isolated IT grounding topologies, or in standard TN/TT power grids with cabinet-level centralized line filters or dedicated line reactors installed.
