The S-Series serial interface provides connectivity between DeltaV™ systems and devices supporting serial protocols such as Modbus or Allen Bradley Data Highway Plus. The S-Series serial interface comes pre-installed with Modbus software drivers.
Additionally, other drivers are provided, allowing direct integration of various devices into the DeltaV controller's I/O subsystem. Data can be used by the control module or transmitted as SCADA tags to workstations for display and/or historical recording.

As with all DeltaV I/O, the serial interface can be added online while other controller I/O is powered on and running. DeltaV serial interfaces can also be installed as redundant pairs to meet the needs of critical applications requiring maximum availability.
PLC Integration: Connect DeltaV to existing PLCs (such as Allen-Bradley or Siemens) to transmit monitoring information and coordinate control strategies across different systems.
Third-Party Equipment Monitoring: Connect to the following specialized industrial equipment:
Analyzers (such as gas or moisture analyzers) for acquiring real-time process data.
Weighing devices (such as Mettler or Sartorius) for directly importing measurement data into the control module.
Motor Drivers and Remote Terminal Units (RTUs): Communicate with frequency converters (VFDs) and remote terminal units via Modbus.
Legacy System Migration: Allows factories to "overlay" modern DeltaV control systems onto existing serial equipment, thereby extending the lifespan of existing equipment.
