The Schneider Electric 170XTS02100 is a line terminal designed specifically for ModBus Plus communication, playing a crucial role in communication networks. It offers flexible installation options, supporting both DIN rail and panel mounting. The device operates efficiently in humidity environments ranging from 5% to 95% without condensation. Compatible with various Schneider Electric platforms such as Modicon Premium, Momentum, and Quantum, the 170XTS02100 is a flexible component in automation designs.
This line terminal uses an RJ45 connector for ModBus Plus communication, essential for building robust industrial networks. In terms of shock resistance, it can withstand up to 50g of impact force and 5g RMS of vibration, ensuring reliable operation in harsh environments. Furthermore, it meets multiple certification standards, including CE, UL, and CSA, guaranteeing its reliability and safety in industrial applications such as knitting machines and robotic arms.
The 170XTS02100 Schneider Electric ModBus Plus Line Terminator may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Production Discontinuation: Schneider Electric officially ceased production of this product on February 17, 2021. Service Termination: Product support, maintenance, and factory consulting services will continue to be provided until December 31, 2029.
Current Availability: As there is currently no modern product that can directly replace this product, it remains an important spare part for Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO).
With the upgrading of fieldbus technology and the replacement of older distributed I/O with newer I/O, the use of the 170XTS02100 as a supplementary accessory to older classic modules in new projects is gradually decreasing. This product remains widely available as a critical daily consumable spare part for MRO. It is used to replace terminals damaged by prolonged vibration, stripped screws, oxidation, or external forces, thereby ensuring the long-term electrical stability of the entire automated production line within the factory.
The Modicon 170XTS02100 operates based on the physical impedance matching and energy dissipation mechanism of high-frequency differential signals. When a high-frequency square wave signal in a Modbus Plus (or RS485) network is transmitted to the line termination via shielded twisted-pair cable, a sudden interruption in the physical medium causes a drastic change in its characteristic impedance, resulting in the electromagnetic wave energy being reflected in the opposite direction and interfering with subsequent normal data transmission.
The 170XTS02100 integrates a precision terminating resistor whose impedance is precisely matched to the characteristic impedance of the communication cable (typically around 120 ohms). When a differential voltage signal is injected into the termination via an RJ45 interface, all remaining electromagnetic wave energy is immediately captured by this internal resistor and completely dissipated as a small amount of heat.
This mechanism perfectly aligns with transmission line theory at the physical level, making the signal appear as if it's entering an "infinitely long cable," thus eliminating reflections. This ensures secure, accurate, and distortion-free transmission of data frames between all effective nodes in an automation system, at rates up to 1 Mbps or even higher.
