Industrial Hardware Applications
Features:
- Reliability and simple fault diagnosis procedures
- IP20 Class protection without the requirement for enclosures
- Hardware based on standards for optimum communication connectivity (Ethernet, PROFIBUS DP, etc.)
The CPU board contains the microprocessor and RAM memory, a real-time clock, LED indicators, INIT push button, and a CompactFlash interface. The base plate of the PM860A controller has two RJ45 Ethernet ports (CN1, CN2) for connection to the Control Network, and two RJ45 serial ports (COM3, COM4). One of the serial ports (COM3) is an RS-232C port with modem control signals, whereas the other port (COM4) is isolated and used for the connection of a configuration tool.
Simple DIN rail attachment / detachment procedures, using the unique slide & lock mechanism. All base plates are provided with a unique Ethernet address which provides every CPU with a hardware identity. The address can be found on the Ethernet address label attached to the TP830 base plate.
The PM860AK01 3BSE066495R1 ABB Processor Unit may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

In ABB's engineering environment (such as System 800xA Control Builder or Compact Control Builder AC 800M), the application is a container for the actual programming logic (control modules, graphs, tasks, and functions).
For the PM860A CPU, software applications are subject to the following technical limitations:
Memory Allocation: The hardware is equipped with a total of 16 MB of RAM. Depending on the 800xA firmware version used, approximately 10.34 MB of RAM is allocated to the application code.
Graph Limitation: A single application loaded onto this controller can handle a maximum of 128 graphs.
Task Execution: The processor can break down the application into multiple tasks, each with a cycle time as low as 1 millisecond.
Testing and Simulation: When creating or modifying application projects, the engineering software allows you to build simple loops, cascading loops, or fuzzy control loops and test them on a PC using a soft controller (simulation mode) before compiling and downloading them to the physical PM860A hardware via Ethernet.
This module offers stable, non-redundant, moderate processing performance (0.23 milliseconds per thousand Boolean operations) and G3-level industrial corrosion protection, making it widely applicable in the following fields:
Power Generation: For general logic, auxiliary machinery monitoring, and water treatment control loops in processing plants.
Oil and Gas Operations: For fuel distribution terminals, tracking of non-critical process utilities, and pump station management.
Factory Automation and Manufacturing: As a central interface, connecting factory floors to advanced DCS control systems via Modbus or Profibus communication modules connected to its baseboard.
