    • PRODUCT OVERVIEW

      What is this product?

The Bently Nevada 3500/61 163179-02 is a six-channel temperature monitor with recorder outputs for the 3500 machinery protection platform. It receives RTD or thermocouple signals, conditions the measurements and compares them with user-configured alarm setpoints. Unlike the 3500/60, it provides an individual 4-20 mA recorder output for every channel, allowing each temperature measurement to be passed to a recording or control system. Channel type, full-scale range and alarm settings are established in 3500 Rack Configuration Software. The selected rear I/O determines whether the installation uses non-isolated RTD/TC inputs, isolated thermocouple inputs or an internal-barrier arrangement. The front monitor occupies one full-height rack slot and is specified separately from its I/O and termination hardware. For TMR service, the manufacturer requires adjacent temperature monitors in groups of three.

      Source boundary

Technical values refer to Bently Nevada datasheet 141540, Rev. L. The spare number 163179-02 identifies the front monitor; it does not by itself specify the rear I/O, sensor mix or hazardous-area approval option.

Technical values refer to Bently Nevada datasheet 141540, Rev. L. The spare number 163179-02 identifies the front monitor; it does not by itself specify the rear I/O, sensor mix or hazardous-area approval option.

The Bently Nevada 3500/61 163179-02 temperature monitor is supported by Moore Automated for verified industrial replacement and spare-part requirements.
Bently Nevada 3500/61 163179-02 temperature monitor manual(Datasheets), Link Important Notice: Other accessories, manuals, cables, calibration data, software, etc. are not included with this equipment unless listed in the above stock item description. All prices are shown in USD.

Six individual recorder channels

The 3500/61 provides a 4-20 mA output for each temperature channel. Output scaling is proportional to the configured full-scale range, with a specified load resistance of 0-600 Ohm and voltage compliance of 0 to +12 V DC. Recorder resolution is 0.3662 microampere per bit.

The manufacturer states that recorder-output short circuits do not affect monitor operation. Verify the receiving input, loop termination and selected internal or external I/O arrangement before connecting a recorder or control-system input.

Choose the sensor and I/O together

Documented thermocouple types include E, J, K and T. Supported three- and four-wire RTDs include 100 Ohm platinum with alpha 0.00385 or 0.00392, 120 Ohm nickel and 10 Ohm copper. Measurement range, wiring and any barrier restrictions must be checked for the selected sensor.

RTD/TC non-isolated I/O can accept either sensor type or a mixture of RTD and thermocouple channels. The TC-isolated configuration is thermocouple-specific. Isolation values and permissible temperature ranges apply to the selected I/O arrangement, not to an unidentified front monitor on its own.

Front monitor and rear I/O arrangement

The front monitor requires one full-height 3500 rack slot, with the corresponding temperature I/O in a rear slot. Channel type, full-scale range and alarm setpoints are established with 3500 Rack Configuration Software; the selected I/O and installed transducers must agree with that configuration.

With internal or external termination I/O, the specified operating range is -30 to +65 deg C. Internal-barrier I/O changes the operating range to 0 to +65 deg C. When used in Triple Modular Redundant service, temperature monitors must be installed next to each other in groups of three according to the documented system arrangement.

Technical notes

The 163179-02 spare is the front 3500/61 temperature monitor with recorder outputs, not a rear temperature I/O module. Six RTD or thermocouple channels are configured through 3500 Rack Configuration Software and evaluated against user-defined Alert and Danger setpoints. Each channel has a 4-20 mA recorder output rated for a 0-600 Ohm load. Transducer selection, isolation and termination arrangements depend on the separate I/O configuration: non-isolated RTD/TC I/O supports mixed sensor types, whereas TC-isolated I/O is thermocouple-specific. The operating-temperature limit also changes with internal-barrier I/O. In a TMR installation, temperature monitors are arranged in adjacent groups of three; the complete system configuration must be verified rather than inferred from the spare number.

3500/61 Spare-Part Identity Check

Provide a clear photograph showing the complete 3500/61 monitor label, spare number 163179-02 and any hardware or firmware identification present on the supplied unit. Include a separate image of the rear I/O label and connector side when an I/O replacement is also required. In the manufacturer's spare-parts list, 163179-02 denotes the front monitor; do not interpret its -02 suffix as the I/O or agency-approval option in a complete 3500/61-AA-BB ordering code. If a label is incomplete or unreadable, send photographs before requesting a matched replacement.

Temperature Monitor Quotation Details

For a matched 3500/61 163179-02 quotation, send the required quantity, complete ordering identification and readable nameplate photographs. Identify the installed 3500 rack, the rear temperature I/O part number, associated terminal blocks and any recorder connection hardware that must accompany the front monitor. State whether the request covers the monitor alone or an identified assembly, and include any revision constraint from the existing installation. Please also provide the receiving country and required delivery date so Moore Automated can confirm the exact supply scope and prepare the quotation.

Questions buyers ask about 3500/61 163179-02

  • Which label identifies the 3500/61 spare supplied under 163179-02?

The manufacturer lists 163179-02 as the 3500/61 temperature monitor with recorders. Match both the 3500/61 designation and the complete 163179-02 spare number on the front monitor label. The rear I/O is a separate item; send its label as well when requesting a complete assembly.
  • Can an existing RTD or thermocouple I/O be retained with this monitor?

Compatibility depends on the installed temperature I/O. RTD/TC non-isolated I/O can be configured for RTDs, thermocouples or a mixture, while TC-isolated I/O is intended for thermocouple inputs. Provide the rear I/O part number and termination arrangement before a replacement is matched.
  • Which temperature measurements are documented for the 3500/61?

Bently Nevada documents bearing metal temperature, compressor suction and discharge temperature, steam temperature, motor stator temperature and temperature differentials. Select the transducer type, measurement range and alarm settings for each connected measurement point.
  • What should be checked when fitting the front monitor?

The monitor uses one full-height front rack slot with the corresponding temperature I/O at the rear. Qualified personnel should follow the 3500/60 and 3500/61 user guide, verify terminal wiring and restore the correct channel configuration and alarm setpoints before returning the protection channel to service.
