The C6691/IRD is a high-performance integrated receiver decoder (IRD) designed for professional broadcast and satellite communication systems. Its primary function is to receive encrypted or clear digital satellite signals (DVB-S/S2) and convert them to various available formats, such as ASI, IP, or analog/digital video output.

The device is equipped with multiple descrambling functions and typically supports a universal interface (CI) slot for CAM cards to handle encrypted pay channels. In addition to basic decoding capabilities, it provides comprehensive transport stream (TS) processing, including PID filtering, reuse, and signal quality monitoring.

Finally, the processor decodes compressed data (such as H.264 or MPEG-2) into baseband video, or repackages TS packets for IP streaming transmission, while outputting telemetry data on signal-to-noise ratio and bit error rate for system health monitoring.
