- This module is a 5-slot expansion baseplate from the Series 90-30 Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) platform.
Its key features include five (5) I/O slots, one (1) power supply slot, and one (1) expansion port. It supports standard 90-30 series I/O modules and dedicated modules. It can be directly mounted to the control panel using the included mounting clips. It works with the CPU backplane and connects via the CPU backplane's expansion port.
Using the IC693CHS398 allows the CPU module to control a greater number of I/O modules. The number of expansion backplanes (e.g., IC693CHS398) allowed per system depends on the CPU model used. CPUs 331, 340, and 341 can have up to four expansion backplanes installed simultaneously; CPUs 350 and later can have up to seven.

The IC693CHS398 has five I/O slots, which are also compatible with option modules. These slots are specially sized to prevent incorrect module installation. The backplane requires a dedicated power supply module to operate. The power supply module is installed in a dedicated power supply slot on the left side of the hardware. There is also an expansion backplane port on the far right of the hardware for connecting additional expansion backplanes.
