Product Information:

The F2DO1602 (often abbreviated as F2 DO 16 02) is a safety-related remote output (DREP) module from the HIMatrix series manufactured by HIMA GmbH, Germany. It features a robust metal housing and integrates 16 safety relay outputs.

Designed specifically for HIMax or HIMatrix series central controllers, the F2DO1602 serves as an I/O expansion layer and is widely used in the global oil and gas, large-scale chemical, power, and high-risk process control industries to perform critical safety interlock control tasks, such as emergency oil shut-off and valve closure.

In terms of technical architecture and safety compliance, the F2DO1602 has obtained TÜV's authoritative safety certification, achieving the highest SIL 3 safety level (compliant with IEC 61508, IEC 61511, and EN ISO 13849-1 PL e standards). It does not have the ability to independently run user logic programs. The module requires connection to the main controller via the dedicated SafeEthernet secure Ethernet protocol and configuration using the SILworX or ELOP II Factory programming environment.

Overview Manuals Certified HIMatrix F2 DO 16 02 Key Maintenance & Overcurrent

Features:

  • 2 safety relays with forcibly guided contacts,1 standard relay
  • 16 potential-free normally open contacts
  • Relies on the proprietary SafeEthernet protocol over standard Ethernet cabling to maintain a deterministic, safety-jacketed data link back to the main CPU rack
The HIMA F2DO1602 operates on a standard 24VDC voltage, with a power consumption range of 18W to 74W (depending on the output load). Its typical response time is less than 10 milliseconds, ensuring accurate and timely response even in hazardous environments. In terms of field deployment and environmental adaptability, the F2DO1602 module is designed for harsh field environments, supporting field installation in Zone 2 explosion-proof hazardous areas.

When used with a cabinet compliant with EN 60079-15 and with a protection rating of at least IP54, the module can operate stably over a wide temperature range of -20°C to +60°C and can function in dusty environments. This distributed solution places valves and actuators directly near the industrial site, significantly reducing the cost of traditional long-distance copper cabling from the control room to the industrial site and completely eliminating the safety hazards associated with intermediate transmission links.

The F2DO1602 HIMA Safety-Related Controller Output Module may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

When integrating the F2DO1602 into an emergency stop (ESD) circuit, protecting the internal relays from induced back EMF spikes is crucial:
External fuse: HIMA guidelines require the installation of an external time-delay fuse of up to 10 A on the power line to prevent overcurrent from blowing the contacts.
Relay lifecycle tracking: Because these are physical mechanical relays, their lifespan depends on the switching cycle. Engineers should periodically obtain the runtime diagnostic counter via SILworX to schedule preventative module replacement before contact performance deteriorates.
