- ICS Trusted TMR 24V DC/48V DC Output Module - 40 Channel
The T8461C provides multiple independent output channels within a single module, enabling safety-critical systems to control multiple actuators simultaneously while meeting stringent reliability and response speed requirements. This feature makes the module particularly important in industrial applications where accurate and reliable control signals are crucial for protecting personnel, equipment, and processes.
Another key feature of the T8461C is its integrated advanced diagnostics and redundancy mechanisms. This module is designed to continuously monitor the status of its output circuits, enabling early detection of anomalies such as short circuits, open circuits, or inconsistent paths. When installed within a Trusted Safety Controller chassis, the T8461C can communicate with the central processing unit to report operational status and fault conditions in real time.
The T8461C ICS triplex Digital Output Module may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

The T8461C operates on a Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) architecture. Within this module, three independent processing paths simultaneously evaluate output commands from the safety controller. A majority voting mechanism then determines the correct output state before sending the command to the field device. If a failure in one processing path leads to inconsistent results, the other two paths vote against the erroneous signal, thus maintaining normal system operation. With this fault-tolerant voting mechanism and continuous self-diagnostic capabilities, the T8461C ensures that critical field devices operate reliably and deterministically in high-integrity automation environments.
The T8461C is a core component of the following safety-critical systems:
1. Emergency Shutdown (ESD) System: Safely shuts down process units in emergency situations (e.g., closing the main fuel valve) to prevent catastrophic failure.
2. Fire and Gas Leakage (F&G) System: Activates fire suppression systems, controls ventilation dampers, and triggers alarms upon detection of a fire or gas leak.
3. Boiler Management System (BMS): Controls purging, ignition, and safety interlocks for industrial burners and boilers.
4. High Integrity Pressure Protection System (HIPPS): Provides an overpressure safety barrier in upstream oil and gas applications.
