Product Information:

The T7481A is a Rockwell Automation/ICS Tri-Works Regent+Plus monitoring and protection digital output module. It provides low-density I/O switching for Trusted and Regent safety systems. Designed for fail-safe or fault-tolerant critical control loops, this module prevents accidental power routing to field components.

In single-module explicit fault (1oo1) or dual-module fault-tolerant (2oo2) configurations, this module not only reports independent field line status to the application layer in real time but also achieves the highest industrial safety integrity level certifications of DIN19250/AK5 and IEC 61508 SIL 3. It is a core component ensuring safe "power-off disconnection" in industrial emergency circuit breakers and critical load controls, effectively reducing the risk of abnormal failures.

Features:

  • Sixteen Guarded outputs (in two groups of eight)
  • Complete, automatic testing of all output circuits
  • Automatic line monitoring detects open and short field wiring circuits
Monitored Guarded output modules provide Guarded control and line monitoring for sixteen field loads. Three types of modules are available for interfacing to outputs powered from 24 VDC, 110 VAC, or 120 VDC field power supplies. These modules are called Guarded because each module's dualredundant design ensures that no single fault within the module will inadvertently apply power to an output.

These modules also monitor the output field wiring for open and short circuit faults. Individual output line status is available to application programs. Each module's triplicated Safetybus interface ensures that no Regent system failure will inadvertently apply power to an output. Extensive fault detection and redundant critical circuits ensure that each module operates in a fail-safe manner.

The T7481A ICS triplex Monitored Guarded Output Module may still be available for purchase and support from Moore Automated Company beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Current Leakage Alarm: Rockwell Automation has issued a technical service notice stating that current leakage may occur if a two-component circuit fails. This issue could lead to unnecessary downstream energy supply and cause field devices that should be shut down to remain at a high level.
Dynamic Commutation: The safety processor performs continuous line switching tests (0 → 1 → 0 or 1 → 0 → 1). If a logic link fails during these tests, the platform will mark that channel as a structural fault.
The Monitored Guarded output modules are TÜV certified to Risk Class 5 for safety critical outputs. The modules are approved for de-energize to trip safety critical outputs in single or dual module configurations.
The modules are also approved for energize to trip safety critical outputs in dual module configuration, but only if the fault name variables are configured and used to automatically alarm and annunciate the detection of load/fuse faults to plant operations personnel.

Technical notes

The ICS Triplex Regent+Plus T7481A module is a 24V DC 16-channel monitoring and protection digital output module designed for high-reliability and safety systems, such as hybrid Regent and Trusted control systems. Its core advantage lies in its innovative dual-redundancy protection architecture (Guarded Design), which ensures that the failure of any single component within the module will not result in the incorrect transmission of power commands to external field loads. Simultaneously, it can monitor open and short circuit conditions in external field wiring in real time.
